..."All in all, it's been a good tour through time for most of us..."

Didn't know the man, but this says a lot to me and, all the more poignant...

Salute- Woody

I just crawled to the coffee pot and this is a special toast to Woody. Damn glad for the privilege of greeting the pale sliver of morning on the eastern horizon. This one's for you!

What you said, Woody: damn grateful I'm still around. I still have mornings, I admit, when the weaselly little whiner inside is so distracted by some pain or some anger that he blows me right past the damn grateful part. Muttering fool! Thank you for the timely reminder. Again. Sometimes it takes a 2x4 to bash a little humble appreciation into us.

That we never met means nothing. OK, I admit it's my loss. I've been following your leads ever since I had the good sense to leave my precious Buttermilk for the other desert granite. Just been a little slow to recognize the man behind the classics there, is all. Only glimpse I got of you, but that's just the climbs.

Clearly you were a stellar human being to attract the friendship of Locker and Cosmic. Those guys are not only the LOUDEST voices here, but their big hearts cut thru a lot of BS straight to the core. And they always seemed to be dragging you along. Or was it the other way 'round? Says a lot.

My heart goes out to your wife and your kids. It's a new morning for you guys too. Hold your heads up proud just as soon as you can.

Back to what you said for the last word:

All in all, it's been a good tour through time for most of us.

from before history itself...

Ed, that's a great line. And while we're feeling all fragile and grateful, a little appreciation to you too, Sir.

I woke in the night, or still dreaming...doesn't matter. Point is it was one of those 3:00 AM thoughts and I had transposed your phrase here to be "before time itself" and I was chuckling to myself that if a physicist could make such a statement then it must really mean something. But what....?

Not mere thread drift, is this Life Drift? Please watch me here, as this lead seems to be diving into a thicket of Primordial Soup....

"All in all, it's been a good tour through time for most of us. We were all, with the exception of Jim Foote, in our sixties before things began to go awry. Hell, it can't last forever. I get up each morning, crawl to the coffee pot and am damn grateful I'm still around to drink it."

Well, I hope I can write something like that when I'm less than two years out.

Lost a close friend-- she was only 53 --to a series of strokes last year and another to heart attack.

I'd rather go out in harness.

I didn't really know Woody. I guess I'd met him a handful of times, and we had a lot of mutual friends.
