Squirrels = Tree Rats with better PR
Not sure what breed of Squirrels we have. I know they are not native but from the east and have pushed out-killed the native Colorado squirrels.
They are kinda yellow grey and I just call them dog treats. They climb low in the trees teasing my dog. She waits runs and does a high jump. Walla new toy-dog treat. Then I have one less tree rat to eat the bird food.

I've eaten squirrels from Alabama to California. The only ones fit to eat are southern grays that feed on hickory nuts and acorns. Young ones, floured and fried in bacon grease are the best. The heads are a delicacy, You rip the jaw open and eat the tongue and jaw muscles, then crack the back of the skull with a spoon and eat the brains. Larrupin!
Recent rumors may link the eating of squirrel heads with a mad cowlike disease.
End of report.

LEB did we miss you around the Yellowpines campfire during the Facelift? If you weren't there to hear, there was a common fantasy of your attending... and some pretty funny impressions of your thinking style in the spoken (rather than written) medium. So you were there in spirit, at least.

Wasn't it "Leroy" who put America's first squirrel into orbit?
You squirrel-lovers would have a field day at my place, as long as it's those furry-tailed rats known as ground squirrels you are fans of. My place is like their *habitat*.
Every time I trap one and re-locate his ass to my neighbor's yard it just makes space for two more.
I've tried shooting the damn things and feeding their carcasses to the dogs in the hopes the dogs will see squirrels as food. But all this does is make the dogs associate a gunshot with food. Except for the Doberman. She associates the sound of the rifle's safety being flicked off with food. Apperently she has more faith in my marksmanship skills than the other dogs do.

"I wonder if cats attack domestic birds like chickens, guinea hens etc." Generally yes, but they may avoid a rooster.
Get a goose - they'll beat the crap out of your cats, dogs, and others. Ask Crimpie.
