Crimpie--What an excellent TR! You not only win the prize for hysterically funny candid shots, but your by-lines allow WWWLAHC (we who were left at home crying) to know who's who...a huge plus when dealing with an Internet-based community.
Thank you for your post.
Happy belated birthday to you.
Hope to see you in JTree.
What the hell happened to your birds????
I've gotten so many compliments on your necklace, I'm thinking I should be a distributor for you...

My pet sitter never showed up. My birds went five days without food or water. And they lived. It was a true bird epic.
A long traumatic day at the vet, and about 500$ later, everyone is looking good. I think they'll all make it. I'm forever scarred though.
It is the stuff nightmares are made of. For her too as well. The pet sitter did contact me today with this email:
I am sure that you have nothing to say to me, and I totally and completely understand that. I tried to call your cell and it said it was temporarily out of service. I left a message on your office line, too. I just wanted to make sure that the birds survived my f*#k up, and I wanted to apologize. I have no excuses. I kept saying to myself (and to my husband) I KNOW Callie has another trip coming up, why isn't it coming up on the calendar? So today, while I was out, I had him go through my e-mail file and find it, and it was the 28th through the 2nd, which means that I left the birds all alone for 5 days. I don't know how I didn't get it on the calendar, but whatever, there is no excuse. I apologize, and I really, really hope the birds are okay. Please let me know.
Thanks, and again, I am so, so sorry,

Next year I will stay in Yellow Pines (Jello Pines?) the whole time - apparently those of us who stayed in Camp 4 missed a lot of fun.

I was curious how Camp 4 was. Any TRs from that neck of the woods?

Here are the final tallies.
The final count was 2,945 volunteers contributing 18,335 man hours. The cleaning was contagious and people jumped in and helped participants fill their bags. The Park Service valued the work at $344,148.00. 132 miles of roadway were cleaned including the toilet paper in the woods at all the turnouts. 80 + miles of trails were cleaned. The Merced River corridor was cleaned from Happy Isles to the NPS Warehouse in El Portal. All lodging, campgrounds, and housing areas in the Valley and Tuolumne were cleaned. In all over 42,330 pounds were collected and everything that could was recycled. The bulk of the weight was from special projects we took on helping rid the Park of old infra-structure that NPS does not have the funding for, to remove.
We kicked ass!

Hey Bob - those WERE the *cool* pictures of dancing!
I may now have to post the photos of dancing when all the guys and gals had their shirts off. Sweat was EVERYWHERE. (It was awesome).

Absolutely!
I'd heard of John Stannard long ago when I was climbing at Seneca. I miss Seneca. sigh.
Jstan was even part of Team Twisted working Hwy 120. He's amazing. It was great meeting someone I very much admire and I didn't even throw myself at his feet, grab his ankles and start smooching him. See, I am developing some self control. :)

Cheers to all the cleaner-uppers. John Muir, I hope, would smile.
Nice little bio on Jstan. Legend for sure.
Another super TR from Crimper. Thanks for putting in the time. You and the bears. . . maybe try switching perfumes. Poison?

Ken, Can you get all of Yellow pines next year? It would be cool to have: site A/B as a quite zone, and C/D as Camp Coo -Coo.

Nita, I can get the whole campground except for Friday and Saturday nights. The Yosemite Fund always has their fundraiser on National Public Lands Day.

Well, we should give a ticket to whoever turns in a bag of trash as refund for their stay in Yellow Pines. That way if someone doesn't pick up trash, they won't be camping for free. Yes, that means we will all initially pay until we get out ticket proof. It will be a lot of shuffling, but it will cut down with those looking for a free ride.
Hey, I am not against anyone doing the cleaning and climbing thing. Just it isn't fair to hog a space when your not doing any work while someone who is fully participating gets forced out because of crowdedness.

Stzzo - I should have gotten a photo. No joke, I didn't even tear down the tent. Instead I ripped up the stakes and drug it across the road and down a ways. Planted it next to the truck. Stayed there until the park guy told me to sleep in the truck. Being the brave soul I am, I begged him to stay with me while I tore down the tent.
It was a long night waiting for the bear to rip up the truck and eat me alive.

Too funny Crimpy. You climb 5.11 but you can't handle bear 46's cousin. Come on. Next year bring a case of twinkies and leave them in the woods near Crowley's tent. The bear will fall in love with Crowley and leave you alone.

stzzo - Yes, there were probably some freeloaders amongst the 60+ people. (A few were involved in the FaceLift in ways other than picking up litter, of course.) Short of taking on a real sergeant persona, it would be challenging to entirely stop this. At the same time, it's very important that we self-manage at Yellow Pines, and keep things under control.
Anastasia's idea is helpful, some sort of coupon system. Or we could ask the host to check each morning. Or something else - we have a year to figure it out.
Another idea was that FaceLift people get coupons toward showers - it can be rather dirty and unhygienic work. Again, challenging to organize, and of course not hard for those with a little initiative to work it out.

It's a busy time, and I keep having afterthoughts from the FaceLift.
jstan, Khanom, Chicken Skinner and I had some very useful discussions at the FaceLift on tipping guides. As Ken is/was a guide, and I was a sort of guide, it went well.
