JW,
Thanks for the tip, that stuff is rather expensive around here though it is highly recommmended. I still have to finish the plumbing, gas lines, and electrical before I insulate and sheetrock.

Hey Ken-- yeah, that Icynene is pricey in the short term--$1.40/sq.ft. for 3" in walls, $2.00 for 5" in lid around here. I wish it had been available when I built my own place. Another alt. that not everyone knows about is BROWN (recycled cardboard) wet blown cellulose. Has a little better R value than the stuff made from newsprint.
Good luck, your project looks to be going well.

Hey Kenny!
I just finished the Tweezez project on the NW face of Daff Dome yesterday! He's pissed at me I think! I named it the Rise and Fall of the Albatross in his honor.
See ya at the cleanup

Hey Mikey,
I guess he got Tweezed. I didn't know he had a project up there. Where does it go?

Wow Ken, your house is going to be awesome!
I am struggling as usual with the pathological habit of planting too many creative seeds, and then getting somewhat strangled when too many of them grow into vines that overwhelm me.
Growing the non-profit Gateway Mountain Center - large school groups doing placed-based education at Donner Summit
Getting ready to start my mountaineering program for teens in Truckee for third school year, its called Pass It On! - "Achieving health, growth, reflection and confidence - through the challenge of mountaineering."
Doing recreational program design and consulting for the developers at Donner Summit, whose project has become extremely contentious, at least the locals agree with me that whatever happens there should be good trails and interpretive signs and programs.
Letting go of hard climbing goals this autumn and starting to train hard for the nordic race season.
And the project of working on myself to become a better "gardener" and control those vines!

I'm working to write something. Several things, really. They each seem like pretty big projects.

Just finished this little place, took 13 months but it came out very nice.
Then in my spare time I built this kidergarten thru fifth grade
school building in just under 8 month's for a local private school.
Of course it helps to have twenty or thirty guys working for me everyday.
After finishing those two I can finally sleep all thru the night for the first time in month's.
I,m just starting a million dollar home and we are in the middle of framing another $650,00 one... it never seems to end.
Luckily I get three weeks off and am heading out for Yoso, Bishop,Lone Pine,Zion, Bryce, North rim ect. Can't wait!
See you all at the facelift.

It on the Big Island of Hawaii, on one of the nicest piece of property around. Killer veiws of Mauna Kea..Mauna Loa and Hualalai.
And Ken.. What we always say is "Starting a house is easy,,actually finishing it is the hard part." particularly if you start living in it halfway thru the process.
Good luck.
P.S. What did you do with all the museum stuff.
Oh now I get it... THATS where all that money's going...
Just kidding....

I was thinking that didn't look like Southern Cal. Awesome. Nice Job.
Likewise Ken, and you're sooooooo darn close to the ditch, wait, in the ditch.
Cheers to the builders with vision.

John, The hard part is living in the house while it is being done. I am finding saw dust everywhere as I cook dinner. Can't wait to cook amongst the drywall dust. I'll be glad when it is over.
Ken
P.S. Don't worry, the artifacts are well protected in the other unit. Just acquired another Salathe hammer last week and quite a few other things lately.
