euroford,
I have one of those Kelty tarps, tool. That's why I got the parawing. Thing is burly. Had it set up on a week long WINDSURFING trip (30 knot winds for six days straight) and the damn thing never even flapped. I cut some big wedges from a bed sheet to block out the sun when it gets low. I clip them on with welder's clamps.

I love that setup.

GhoulweJ, I thought long and hard about a roof top tent but decided against for 2 reasons. Actually 3 :-) a) it's a long way down to take a pee when I've been drinking. b) the force (moment for you engineers) on the roof supports when grinding down a 4WD road may not be pretty and c) tents and wind = a sleepless night.

I have been pretty concerned about the roof rack supporting the tent on the trail as well.

A 5 second tent assembly/disassembly with bedding already in place seounds pretty good!
