Well, credit where credit is due. The idea for the Facelift is that of Ken and the Yosemite Climbing Association, and over the last few years he and they have built it into the largest such event in the U.S. Ken puts in a tremendous amount of work organizing and running the Facelift ("Monday morning - clean up the west auditorium" - maybe some of us can help?), not to mention working on the proposed Yosemite climbing museum, archives, and on and on. I'm just an assistant deputy thingy.
The Facelift not only does good for the Park, it builds relationships between climbers and the National Park Service, Delaware North, and other players. We earn enormous good will through the Facelift.
I actually haven't done very much to help, apart from thinking and planning, swapping e-mail with Ken, and a few posts on SuperTopo. I was at the Facelift last September, though only for a day, and had lots of fun. It occurred to me on the way home that climbers, and SuperTopians, could be more involved in the whole thing, and have a lot of fun by doing so. Sushifest XX:IV convinced me that there'd be support. So I thought I'd see what I could organize. (I do a bit of such stuff up here in the great white north.)
The effort involved in a Facelift sushifest will be enormous, but add a lot to the event. Thanks to nature for taking that on!
I do have a personal conundrum to do with the Facelift - I live about 2,000 km away. That makes on the spot organizing a little challenging, though I plan to arrive a few days early. It also makes me an enviro-vandal, burning all that gas. It would probably be better for the environment if I just stayed home, and made a donation to the YCA. Especially knowing that someone travelled to Facelift last year by public transit - from Santa Barbara! Suggestions welcome on this - should I get some carbon credits, or plant a tree, or pick up hitchhikers, or?

Or .....
Just get your ass down here, Anders.
Your organizational skills will greatly help out poor overworked Kenny during that time and you know you want a good excuse to get out of town anyways.
Carbon credits? I have a grinder and we'll grind some pencils down for ya.

Hey Crowley, I consider that a challenge.
There are, in fact, Tofu rolls, vegetarian rolls, carnivore rolls, and mineral rolls in my repertoir. (although the last may be more crunchy than most folks, Rockbiters excepted, could stomach,)
Seriously...
smoked Rainbow Trout and Watercress is pretty harmless.

Good Grief! They look like such a happy couple. That's high quality work yet again Mr. Ouch!
The Sierra roll that brutus makes is really rather fantastic.
A.C. - Other than the nori (seaweed) there really are no ingredients in sushi I can't imagine you (or anyone else) liking. The sushi rice is really rather delicious by itself. IF you have never had wasabi just give it a little try by itself and if you don't like it we won't put in in the roll (folks can add it later - or, in the case of crimpie, she puts her rolls on top of a hugigantic blob of the stuff). Soy sauce, veggies, tofu, you name it.
I have two special rolls: Veganaturoll and Naturoll. Both use tempura asparagus. The Vegan one uses Tempura Tofu and the non-vegan uses tempura shrimp.
My mom had never tried raw fish. She tried raw tuna last year and liked it. She doesn't go out of her way to eat it. It doesn't have a fishy taste or smell at all. It's smooth as butter. IF you can get over the fact that it isn't cooked you'll quickly learn to love it (and not being cooked is not a problem - USDA health code states only certain fish can be served raw and without being treated for parasites. Tuna meat doesn't have harmful parasites and is one of the few fishes that qualify).
And as far as the effort goes this event will be pretty darn easy for me. I had a lot to organize for the SushiFests but for this I'm simply looking at one night of sushi (for sushifest I do breakfast and dinner on multiple nights). Estimating and ordering supplies is pretty easy for me.

Did I say second from the right?
I meant second from the left.
I really like warm and crunchy in sushi (not all the time but it's a nice change of pace from cold buttery fish).

Thanks for the bump. I'm sure a few more will be needed.
I just looked at the list again. I currenly have a solid, confirmed (though sans cash which really confirms - not that I've asked for cash tho..) and I have another 11 on the maybe list. That will easily put us over the top.
On the maybe list is Brutus and Nurse Ratchet. If they make it that means we have three chefs. And that would mean we can handle quite a few more.
This is good news - almost good enough to declare the sushi thing ON!

Nature,
I am sure it will all work out. I always wonder if the Facelift will work out every year and it and somehow it always does. If you want, send me a list of your "for sures" and "maybes" and I will recruit around here to make it happen. I think the "for sures" will increase dramatically in a few weeks. Thanks for your effort.

It would apprear the Sushi will happen as the count has now hit 17.
Most folks have expressed the interest of having the good stuff brought in so I'm running with a total of $30 each. That means I'll bring in Fresh Big Eye (or Yellowfin), some fresh Yellowtail, and a bit of Uni.
I'm going to give a bit of thought as to when I want to start collecting and what the refund policy will be. If for some reason I have to cancel on my end the refund policy will be 100%.
Any word on that vacation time Brutus?
The max for this can be pretty high especially if Brutus makes it. Currently we have two chefs - Brutus would make three. I'd say 40-50 max is a good number.

Just a reminder to everyone:
1. Please come to some or all of the Facelift, help out, and have fun. September 26th - 30th.
2. Please let Ken know if you need free camping, anytime from the 25th (Tuesday) onward. I believe Facelifters also get free admission to the Park.
3. The plan is for SuperTopians to camp together at Yellow Pines on the evening of the 25th (Tuesday), and have sushi, courtesy of Doug. Please let Doug know if you are interested - as noted, it will be $30 per person, in advance. Plan B - BBQ.
4. We may not all get to camp together as one group from the 26th - 30th. Some may be in Yellow Pines, some in Camp 4, maybe elsewhere. But we can still do Facelift things as a group or groups.
5. A pancake breakfast on Sunday morning (30th) seems a good idea - recharge before the last work day, and a way for everyone to get together, given that some can only be there for the weekend. Assuming it costs $5 - $10/person, and that everyone would have to help a bit, who'd be interested? (We could do breakfasts other mornings, too, but the logistics add up.)
6. The idea is to have fun, and meet new and old friends. We have some lively off topic discussions on SuperTopo, but most of the political and religious invective should be left outside the park. I hope that in person everyone will be civil, which isn't always the case on some threads.
7. I'll be away from tomorrow (2nd) through the 13th, but may occasionally be able to check in. The world will undoubtedly continue to rotate in my absence.

Very good, Ouch. Are those tears of joy on PMB's face, or tears of...something else?
I forgot to pay Comcast and had no internet for four days - now I know what I was missing!
As for the Facelift, I still don't know if I can make it because of school, but I'll send in the $30 because it's a good cause. Bring extra eel.

Jaybro: yeah, the 25th. No other date makes any sense (can't do it after, the weekend before wouldn't have the attendance or the reserved campsites).
