Thanks, Doug - I was hoping you'd comment once Flagstaff sushifest was over.
Here's the current Facelift attendance list, AFAIK. Please provide additions and corrections, ASAP, and if you want camping during the Facelift, contact Ken.

As I hope is very clear, a Facelift sushifest will require significant advance commitment. Doug has to order supplies, and schlep everything up from Flagstaff. If we don't have the numbers, it won't happen. Please let Doug (nature) know asap if you're interested. (Hopefully he and Summit can attend, even if sushi doesn't happen.)
BBQ
The simple fallback for the 25th is a BBQ. Ken has already arranged to borrow the Lions' large grille, and the rest is pretty straightforward. This does have the advantage of flexibility, if more people show up than planned.
PANCAKE BREAKFASTS
One of those attending has significant experience with putting on pancake breakfasts, and is willing to do so on one or more mornings of the Facelift. He's self-contained in terms of equipment, but might need help with buying supplies, sous chefs, serving, and cleaning up. People would have to provide their own dishes, and perhaps $5/morning. I like this idea - who would be interested? One morning, or several, or all?
DECISION TREE
Based on information currently available, I'm leaning toward a BBQ and big campfire on the evening of the 25th, camping and working together whenever possible during the Facelift, and a pancake breakfast on at least the morning of the 30th. Should I do the Hamlet thing, or simply decide based on such feedback as there's been? It would help a lot to know numbers.

I'll be there. Just talked to Ken, I'll be staying at Yellow Pines for the duration.
I have to confess I'm not much of a sushi fan, but I'm up for other group activities such as BBQ, etc.

The Facelift is organized by the Yosemite Climbing Association and its executive director, Ken Yager (www.yosemiteclimbing.org). I believe it is the largest single volunteer climbers event in North America. I attended for a day in 2006, plan to be there this year, and thought it would be nice to help Ken, get more SuperTopians involved, have fun, and do good. In legal terms, that makes me the soon-to-be-indicted deputy assistant gofer.

I'm going to have to assume I will be the only roller/slicer in the bunch and will have to limit the Sushi Buy-IN. I'm leaning towards $25/person for the one night. Alone I can easily handle 20-25 people. I won't be able to bring in all the fish as I have with other SF's but I should be able to do the standard stuff like:
Unagi
Shrimp
Smoked Tuna/Salmon
Seared Tuna/Salmon
Softshell crab
Roes
IT's possible I will be able to bring in some fresh yellowtail but it won't be the stuff from hawaii and it won't be the same quality as the Big Eye.

It pretty much has to be the 25th - Ken has some good events planned for every other evening, including free food (and drink), speakers, prizes.

yeah, the 25th is what we decided.
I guess with this one I need to start collecting names of folks that want in on the FishFest.
Shoot me an email at nature _at_ sushibynature (dot) com. I'll cap it at 25 and if I have a minimum of 20 it'll be a go. Once I get the list together we can decide on the fee. If the group wants to just do the minimum ingredients thing (shrimp/eel) we can go $20/head. For $30/head I'd be able to bring in some fresh Yellowtail or perhaps Big Eye or hamachi.
If anyone is heading up on the morning of the 25th from San Diego and wants to pick up my order we can save quite a bit on shipping and move that money into fish.

Actually I had so much fun climbing in JT a couple of weeks ago I was thinking of coming up to Yos for nights 9/16 through 9/30. Don't know how to arrange this but you can count on me being on the Facelift your full period. I believe 26-30. If I bring no food I may have enough room in my pack to carry one of those long stringy things and some other stuff. Do you have an email address through which I can arrange camping for the other days?
The first time i went west a century ago one member of the group advised me to buy all our food before crossing the Mississippi - which I dutifully did. Last year I noticed there was actually food to be had in the Valley. A big improvement I must say. If that has changed let me know. If I bring no food and there is none in the Valley I will have to compete with Bear 46. I believe I know how that would play out.

John, you could mail needful things to yourself, c/o general delivery in the Valley, then pick them up when you got there. Though then you'd have to ship them back, too.
The experiences you refer to were not only last century, but last millenium. Especially if one has more than a minimum of money, buying food in the Valley to cook is ok. 10% of the selection of a good supermarket, but still not bad. And there's lots of other options. Ken will ensure we're not misnourished!
