I just bought a cheapy stereo off ebay that has a USB port, flash card port and aux. connection. All on the face of the stereo. I just downloaded all my ipod tunes onto a 4G memory stick and now just keep the memory stick in my car and plug it into the USB port. I can play them at random or scroll through the list on my stereo. $89 for on Ebay new. This is in my beater Land Rover that spends a lot of time in the desert so I did not want to spend too much on a pricey unit. I am very happy with it.

wish I had seen this before I placed an order for mine.
Also, if it did work, it'd be nice if the cradle was a bit deeper- the ipod can come outa bit too easily.

I don't think FM transmitters suck, but they work better in some applications than others. Mine works great in my Subaru, if I attach it near the radio antenna. So I velcroed it on next to a rear window, and ran a wire back (the stuff Ed was complaining about).
I'm not getting a good picture of this in mind's eye.... is there a long wire running from the cigarette lighter to the velcroed transmitter and another long wire running from the transmitter back to your ipod?
in case I can't recreate your velcro set up, thanks in advance for the http://www.jazzyengineering.com/ link.

murcy - just saw your question..
I'll try it, I haven't yet, but the controls from the front panel or from iPod use unconnected are what you get when you turn the iPod on again.
The front panel controls are not the entire set of controls from the iPod... it would be sweet to find out that the iPod could be used too. I'll check

Good Show, Ed! Glad to see you spent the extra few bucks for MUCH better sounds quality than crappy FM transmitters.
