I hope that Oofy turns up somewhere. But if she met her end in the sagebrush up there, what is so bad about that. I respect her "owner" for letting her be free. What is the value of safety at the end of a leash in a place like that?

if i were a dog, i would much rather be lisa's dog, who would have been free to wander here and there on it's own, all the while being well loved and cared for, and living until (at least) the ripe old age of 17, than be an unfortunate "pet" of this gw troll person, always with a rope tied around my neck and under the direct and rigid control, in a most un-natural way, of this person.
in the future, if you have 'bad parenting' comments, please save then for tradisgood (aka dadisbad). as for this issue, you'll notice that your ideas are about as popular as a militant sunni's are in a shia neighborhood.

Man talks of pit bull attack in which he lost his left hand
By From asap - The Associated Press
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- James Chapple had just gotten off a bus and was walking home when two dogs ran out from an auto repair business, knocked him down and started biting.
The two pit bull dogs ripped off Chapple's left hand and badly mauled his right arm before other people were able to beat the dogs away

I realize it is a waste of time to try to be rational with an ass like gw, but one last thing and I am done. Your comment, a lie I hope, about your kid getting hit by a car is stupid. She didn't let her dog free on the shoulder of highway 395.
The poor dog was 17 years old. We all die. If she turns up somewhere all the better. If she wandered off there and died or got killed, well, that's it. You are cruel and unusual to blame her owner.
Looks to me from the pictures like Ooofy was living proof that "it's a dog's life."

A climber lets her old dog wander in the sagebrush by the Owens Gorge, and you come up with examples of people being attacked by pit bulls and guard dogs. And kids run down by cars.
Shame on you.

gw...Thanks for all of your assenine posts as they are keeping this thread at the top of the page today.
Poorly cared for dogs don't live to be 17. At 16 Oof trained for the Big Sur every day with Lisa on trails. If she was always on a leash, she'd probably have died long ago, and certainly wouldn't have been in marathon shape at 16.

gw has a point, but this is just a really inappropriate thread to be carrying on about it. There have been no lack of "dogs at the crags" threads on this and every other climbing related board that has ever existed, so you should resurrect one of those if you want to beat the dead horse.
Anyhow, here's a bump and a hope that Oofy turns up.
EDIT: okay, never mind, he's a worthless twit

My sentiments exactly. While dogs-at-the-crags wars can be entertaining and fun,
it's indeed pretty asinine to try to start one here.

I am amazed that a dog could live such an active life to age 17.
Still, as I wrote earlier, it might have simply been time for a final, quiet rest.
Hopefully my comments aren't misconstrued as being disrespectful.

gw = kev...it's all so very clear now.
He's taking his irrational fear of dogs (probably got frightened by a teeny tiny toy poodle when he was young) out on this girl who's lost her 17 year old dog.
Bump for Oofy and to ignore kev...I mean gw...I mean kev-gw...

Anyone who has missed out on the inter species bond between humans and dogs is missing something that must be experienced and can never be explained.
Nice posts Wes (but maybe a little harsh, ya think?) and Pagan; I think you expressed what is the simple reality.
Don't worry about GW being damned, that person has displayed the hell it's living in and doomed to. The sarcasm card ain't gonna work, BTW.
I'm vibing for oof, reminds me of the photos of Aya's 'family' dog's and my daughter's dog Midnight and even the black cocker mix Jet, that I grew up with, to the point that I can close my eyes and feel the tongue.
All the best, the dogs deal with these things better, and more realistically, than we do.
