This is really a loss that many people will feel. There's so much historical content on here that cannot be found anywhere else on the web. I learned almost all of my early Yosemite (and elsewhere) climbing history here on ST. Some of the trip reports psyched me up to go places that would not have otherwise been on my radar. I'll miss it.

Thank you Chris and RJ for creating and maintaining this remarkable site for the last 18 years.
And thank you, Supertopians, for all the humor, the great stories, the even greater photos, and for generally getting in there and mixing it up with life.
It has truly been a wonderful adventure.
Wishing you all the best on whatever path you're following now and in the future.
Off belay.

Thanks, Chris and RJ - it's been a good ride (17 years for me, since 9/2002).
Does this mean you will shut down the guidebooks, too?
I can't imagine they make very much money.
I would guess that both the guidebooks and forum were done because you enjoyed climbing so much at the time.
Although I suppose nobody has tried to sue you over the guidebooks.

Something important is being thrown away because they didn't figure out how to make money at it. He actually did, through gear reviews, something that started here in this forum and has since moved to other sites RJ manages currently - and according to CMac's enormocast interview - they're making money.
Fact is y'all are useless, got left behind, and now are being cut. A few, apparently, are litigation bait. Ultimately, what monetary value are you to CMac and RJ? Zero. I accept it. I already have every Supertopo guide ever made - bought like 10-20 years ago. I run an ad blocker. I just come here for an escape - on someone else's dime.

It appears the ship has left the dock, but is there no way this forum can't be saved?
Member funding?
Member moderation?
Chris, I have to ask: you state profitability/loss and time as the reasons for shutting down. There have been numerous offers of support to keep the magic alive. Why are you not reaching out for these resources?
The members of the forum could go a long ways towards mitigation of cost and time. Just sayin'

What about approaching the American Alpine Club, and/or Alpinist Magazine, and/or similar, to get support to keep the entire archive- WITH photos- available? And/or continuing the forum?
I myself am only a sporadic climber these days, having spent my 1982-87 summers in the Valley among other places. But I still check the Forum and follow news here pretty regularly.
Thanks for everything you have done.
Very warmly

Chris,
Thank you for hosting SUPERTOPO Forum for 18 Years. When it started it was a tool better than email for rock climbers to connect on good subjects. However all the digital platforms have been taken over by trolls obsessed with their own hateful views. Like a party, that gets too noisy late at night, its time to shut it down.
Climb On,
Caddy
