Tkingsbury, that's an impressive looking cave! How is the stone in the cave? From the picture you posted, it seems to be featured...can't really tell though. Some years ago I look for routes in the area, but somehow obviously missed the huge, gaping hole in the side of the cliff. Seemed like I recall lots of the rock in the area is chossy. Could be, and hopefully am, wrong.

Do you know anything about the big piece of limestone which
sits above Twin Bridges?
I was living there in 81 but I didn't know of any other climbers
so I never got very close to it.

Koda -
The rock is good and featured, and it seems pretty solid. It will take some inital cleaning, but then it would be good to go. The easiest looking route in the cave looks tough....
Cheers,
Tom

Scuffy -
I've seen it, but haven't checked it out nor heard of any development in the area.
Mojede might know about it though, he sniffs out the limestone...

"Do you know anything about the big piece of limestone which

Which area? I've climbed in the T Roots and Ruby's. Rumor has it some folks have done a few chossy routes on Beaverhead Rock as well...
Ooops...whats the first rule of fight club?

brian, scuffy, etal...Nearest I reckon, there hasn't been any climbing on the Twin Bridges Tower. Obviously, any climber driving the road catches sight of it--but the usual Montana logistics come into play, that being "who's going to put it up will it ever get climbed again?" Alot of rock here fits into that category. Our state is unique to rock climbing in that there is 1000 times more climbable stone than climbers available to FA (or repeat, whatever) the routes. It's definately a good thing, because FAers up here have more projects than they could ever climb in a lifetime--a nice rarity in the lower 48. Anybody into limestone and driving around West Yellowstone on 287 should check out the fins above the Beaver Creek Campground (visible from road). Outstanding limstone is also found South of Luther just past the campground. Dolomite of mythic proportions has been confirmed in the Pryor Mountains near Billings--and it just keeps going on and on.

Thanks, Mojede.
I'd forgotten about those fins above Beaver Creek campground.
Went as far as estimating how hard it would be to get to them,
that's all.
Ever check the Buffalo Jump along the lower Big Hole?
Aren't the climbers in Montana pretty concentrated in the West,
like Bozeman and Missoula?
The huge dolomite around Billings must not even get glimpsed very
often by anyone who might do something about it.

scuffy b, I haven't heard of a Buffalo Jump along the lower Big Hole, but there are a few quiet areas which I have been frequenting along the LBH. I'd say aside from the Kalispell/Whitefish/Eureka climbers, the Billings miscreants (?) and the lone hormones, the majority of climbers reside within the "power triangle" or I-90 corridor. My main focus is on the "pt" which encompasses Livingston/Bozeman to Helena to Butte. Missoula is a great climber "base" as well, but I've yet to climb there much--had a blast when I did though.

mojede, the Buffalo Jump is, I believe, a little ways downstream
from the Notch, the first boating access point upstream of
Pennington Bridge.
It's basalt-ish. I don't remember the actual size. Apparently
lots of bone fragments can still be found at its base, and there
are "structures" above that aided in directing the buffalo
toward the launch zone.

scuffy b, I'll have to check that out--sounds interesting. I was way off on my Big Hole cipherin's; seems that the limestone I am pursuing is rather on the Upper end (if Melrose is considered "upper") of the BH. How often do you pass through the State ? Must eitther be often, or you're a resident because you have good knowledge of out of the way rock formations--tap 'er light fellow pioneer.

"Billings miscreants"!? You mean there's more than one of us!? What's with this "power triangle" crap anyway?

Could you swing by here, on the way to the crag, say 11:01 am? I'll belay, lead, buy maragritas, anything. Contentious, possibly litiguos morning, car in shop -if all goes right.

Apologies to any Billings climber who may have taken offense to my terminology. I was ignorant to assume that there were no "Magic City" folk lurking around. Mayor: the brothers and I have, as of today, discovered a quality outcrop of batholith pebbles. I'll send photos soon. STer's--not to worry TK will be getting back on topic with some tasty photos.

Just discovered it today, but we had 'kids in packs', so we gotta return over the weekend.
It was this random BLM piece that ended up having a good bunch of boulders just off the road. - Not bad.
Then we checked out some other BLM land and my jaw dropped.
Hopefully this weekend I'll get a few more pics.....
