Ian's right. Jeff's nickname was Scrubby. He went to high school with another infrequent poster on this site (cancer boy). Jeff was kind of insecure but could be a really decent guy when the mood struck him. Case in point: Cancer Boy rapped down from Anchorage Ledge on Mescalito after a ranger truck with loud speakers drove by the base of the Captain warning of a late season winter storm. Regretfully, we rapped off and got to the base just as the rain hit. Jeff was there waiting for us, and without saying a word, threw our loaded haulbag over his shoulder and lugged it to the base for us.

F*#king Christ, that TR was awesome!

I recall that Scott Burke camp on top of the Captain with a veritable mountain of discarded espresso grounds nearby.

Great story, it was a fun read! It brings back memories of our little epic up there. We didn't drop the food but did run out of water a day OR MORE from the top.

Would qualify as Supertopo Gold except for the mushroom incident on day three, lol. That is R rated. In the Bridwell interview that was just posted, he says this was the only route he used psychedelics on. Maybe you did the second 'trip' ascent of the PO Wall.

Thanks - a marvelous tale! I remember Eric and Daryl talking about their adventures on the second ascent.

Any route with a pitch with the witty name "Nothing Atolls" (and others) has to be a good one.

ps It's Burk, not Burke. Don't ask me, ask Leo or Scott.
