Yikes! Are those the Ramer's that were also called Ramer Break-a-Leg bindings? Be careful with those things.

Janet, you're not alone. Many smaller companies don't provide dental. It's costly.
How much is your typical annual fee for insurance? And I thought drugs were cheaper in Canada which is why so many Americans were buying them from there.

Thanks for the numbers, Janet, we finally have something to compare to. For self-employed individuals here, I started out at $199/mon in 2000 for a really good policy but without full dental. This increased each year until I was paying $330/mon when I got a job with group coverage in 2005. I now pay about $82/mon for excellent coverage including vision and dental.
Those drug prices are really high IMO.
So the socialized medicine costs are really low. Just out of curiosity, since you have your tax info. handy and without asking your income, what are the typical income tax bracket percentages?

Now I'm all scared about these bindings. I use them more for touring than downhill.
Just got back from a nice tour in the snow. Musta dropped 5 lbs. I WIN!

Nature, when Stan first taught me how to ski, we went to SLC with old gear and this was 1981! The pair of skis I was handed had Ramer bindings that would not release and you wore a mountain boot. I think I was using a borrowed pair of Super Guides or other. Are the Ramer's you have similar?
Anyway, our roomate who was there was a polished skier from CN and was horrified to see what gear I was using. He got really mad at Stan and told me to go rent better gear. I skied on that gear for a couple of days, made some wild runs, and finally rented something. Oh, and the roomie made me take lessons. Well worth it. Those were the days! The crashes we used to take were gonzo. Can't imagine doing that today. Way too brittle.
Glad you had a delightful day out there.

Janet, very interesting. Thanks for the insightful data.
Get well soon and spend the money on the meds if they've been working.
Cheers,

The diet challege seems cool, but not so good for the somewhat skinny folks.
Janet,
70$CA or US for the inhailer? What type of inhailer is it? That seems kinda pricey.

Mimi - it sounds like my bindings are different. My bindings have a DIN release setting. They release at times when I don't want them to or feel they should have so I figured that might be where the break-a-leg part comes in.
time to go make some fresh tracks

Here's what I do (or did, before I was recovering from my shoulder having problems)...
In < Out = Weight lost. The equation doesn't get much simpler and for me it means shut cake hole and get exercise. Exercise in my case is climbing (as much as possible), running (18-20 mi/week), swimming (4.5-6 mi/week), and yoga (3x/ week). My diet is very simple when I get after my weight. I have a small morning / lunch bowl of this stuff blended to an oatmeal consistency:
Kellog's All Bran cearal
flax seed
yogurt
banana
ginger
cranberries
lime
cow, oat, soy, or rice milk
1 scoop Trader Joe's protein [egg or whey (sp?)] powder
And a small evening bowl of the following mix augmented by a bit of some sort of protien (salmon/chicken):
1 cup (when uncooked) wild rice
1.5 cups (when uncooked) brown rice
1 can Trader Joe's cuban/carribean black beans
1 can Trader Joe's corn
1 Yellow Bell Pepper
1 big tomato
1 cup salsa
2 avacados
1 red onion
a bunch of fresh garlic
lots of cilantro
lots of [grated] ginger
splash of hot sauce
shot of salt
lots of pepper
splashes of Toasted sesame and olive oil
That make about a week's worth, and I live pretty much off these two mixes when I'm training. That, and I pound water all day and night. This pretty much guarantees I'll lose 2-3 pounds per week.

Jobee, did you see that photo of Russ on the sofa? Typical Friday night date night.
Pounds are melting away. Unfortunately, I believe it's whats left of my muscle mass. Still flabby but I'll make that 4 pound minimum weight loss on Tuesday.
Healyje - Where do I start?....you're just nutz! Wayyy to much exercise!

Yeah, that's what my beat 53yo shoulder said at the time. Haven't figured out a 'new normal' yet, but probably have to ease up on the swimming...
[ Edit: I could drop all the exercising except for the running and it would basically work the same - the running is what makes the whole program work for me... ]

Healyje: If I did that routine I'd be dead and weigh about 38 pounds in a week. I think I'd sooner just do Meth and eat 4 squares at Del Taco..... works for many.
Side note: That fat guy asleep on the couch is down 5 as of today......

Your guys little contest should be a percentage loss. Otherwise Russ is gonna continue to win every year. After all, he who starts the fattest has the most to lose and Russ is definitely up on Susan in that category.

Hi Guys:
I haven't been checking in b/c this diet challenge thing is taking allll my time. I got a scale (digital) two weeks ago and it sits in the middle of my living room.
Though the weight loss isn't going that well (Only down 3.5 as of this AM and hitting the liquid diet to get the goal of 4 by Tuesday, I feel SOOOO much better than I've felt in a long time. So thanks for that!
This has been the plan, and I've stuck to it 100%:
* No drinks with any calories, including juice, excluding protein. (I'm vegetarian, so I need protien)
* No bread other than one tortilla a day
* No milk products except for the feta on the salad at cross roads
* One salad meal per day
* Two protein shakes per day.
Plus, I've gone to the gym three times and climbed four times.
Even though I haven't lost weight, I'm way more healthy. I can see something that looks like a two-pack emerging on the abs and my arms/legs are way more solid and strong.
So even if I don't lose 4 by Tues or 10 by the end, my little world is improving, thanks to the weight loss challenge!
-Kate.

Jan,
Yes, yes we all know that it should be based on a percentage. We've debated this up, down and every which way for years and you are correct.
Unfortunately, it never quite works out and is difficult to monitor. 10 pounds to lose no matter how tubby you are is a tried and true challenge.
Don't have 10 to lose, don't play. People like Russ & Steelmonkey are always winners. Then again, Riley is playing this year and apparently kinda a big guy. He's up and likely will be paying the $10.00 penalty tomorrow.
Last challenge (spring '06) we had a 200+ pound contestant who had to pay the whole $100.00 at the end. Thanks for that Dave!
People like me & Kate appear (appear is the operative word) to not have the 10 to lose. Guess my opinion is if I lost 8 pounds that would be worth $20.00 to me.
Food for thought (as that's all I get these days).
Down 5 with jeans on!
~Susan
