One day, I walked up to Gabe at the bridge, said "Hello" and asked him how he was and how Ammon was doing.
"Ammon," Gabe said crushing a King Cobra, tossing the can into a pile of empties and cracking another. "Who the f*#k is Ammon?"
"You're brother?" I kicked the pavement. Maybe the hippie lettuce had me confused but I'd met Gabe before, hell I'd even humped a load for him when he was cleaning up the Zodiac.
Ten, fifteen, then thirty seconds passed as Gabe stared at me, taking slow tugs on his malt liquor.
"Ammon huh?"
"Uh...yeah." I got ready to bolt, wondering if a swing was coming my way. I suddenly wished I'd worn my running shoes or at least could sprint faster in my sandals.
"Yeah, Ammon's good. I'm just f*#king with ya. Want a beer?" Gabe smiled and thrust a Cobra at me.
I couldn't help but grin back.

I was still a fairly climbing noob when I met him and he introduced me to what are now my 2 favorite places, Yosemite and the Sierra. I'm forever grateful for the fun times. I had some of the most interesting climbing adventures with that crazy rogue. He has the biggest heart when it comes to climbing of just about anyone I've met. Except maybe Ammon. Runs in the family with those boys I guess :)
I looked around and found an old disc of some climbing pics taken back then. As you'd say, cheers and beers to you brother!
