Andres Delgado and Alfonso de la Parra, of Mexico, reported missing on Changabang in October. Extensive searches apparently found no trace. (This was from a thread that ended in early November, with no update.)

John Gilbert Patterson. Died in November of '05, but I will post his name anyway. My brother, my acoustic music other half, and the one who decided the same day I did to "become a rock climber." We had many years of climbing together, and many adventures.

Hans Gmoser, in a bicycling accident. A very accomplished alpinist in the 1950s and 1960s, did a great deal to promote heli-skiing and mountain guiding in Canada.

Even though he died in late 2005, a name that deserves mention is
Jean-Christophe Lafaille
Perhaps the greatest all-around climber of this era, and maybe ever. 8000 meters, A5, M9, 5.14, ED+, you name it, he did it. His death is a sobering reminder that even for the most talented climbers, the mountains are still king.

Norman B. "Ike" Livermore. Helped create Redwood National Park, stopped trans-Sierra road near Mammoth, started the wilderness conferences that eventually led to the Wilderness Act, etc.

I was told to delete the thread because anti-war activists can google the name and give further grief to families so this time I'll spell it backwards

I agree with Ron, this has indeed been a tough year.
Scott McAndrews - lost in the Mammoth Mountain tragedy
and most recently Vern Stiefel. I considered both to be friends.

He was the third guy in the Mammoth incident, along with Scott and Walter.
Who were the guys killed in the avalanche just before that? One was a patroller.

Please add Jason Lane, climber of Bozeman Mt.
My first El Cap route partner.
Rolled his truck dodging a deer with no seatbelt on...what a shame.
RIP bro
