This thread is proof that people prefer expressing speculative opinion over sharing any sort of knowledge. For some reason, it just seems a more appropriate time waster. Who would have thunk it?

you're like a fisherwo/man who keeps getting eaten alive by the mosquitos and then when s/he only catches the odd piece of tire, and then after that an old log, says to themselves:
"fucK this: why do i even come to this fucKing shItty fishing hole?!?"
and you're right: if you're just looking to catch a winter's worth of food, or if you're looking to just catch a trophy of a particular type then there are better bodies of water to throw your lure into.
without question.
otoh, if you like the fight as much as the catch, if you like the casting as much as the catching, if you like the surprise of pulling in a big one that you didn't even know existed more than catching half a dozen of the same ole 6" brown trout and most importantly if you like fishing the ocean more than just a local watering hole, then you're in the right place.
essentially if you enjoy fishing as much as the catching of fish, then good ole st, even with all of its fucKing mosquitos and for all of its undredged garbage lined bottom is the only game in town where every once in a while you'll catch a moby-dick of a good story, of an informative piece of new knowledge, of a great friend, of a perfectly sadistic new enemy, and of etc.
it could be that you just need to learn to set the lines a little deeper, a little longer, and accept that sometimes you aren't going to catch anything...
and when you get really covered in welts and your boat is filled with trash, you can always take a break and go climbing...
don't worry: most of us will still be here when you get back. :)

Okay, Okay, Now I understand. You all educated me and now I love this place. I will never climb again. I will sit here forever. I must figure out how to do what others do so well. I will keep telling myself, "I am not a loser, I am not a loser". I am a winner. (am I improving) I will try as hard as I can. This is Heaven. I must change my name to drljefe or rottingjohnny or Reilly or maybe even locker. Oh nuts, those are already taken. I am trying my hardest but probably not even close. My life will never be the same. I doubt that this is very good. I doubt this is very entertaining. I will try to do better. I know I can do better. Maybe I am really stupid and a loser. (fades off into the sunset) where he belongs. I must go play Pacman with my grandkids. This was not written by me. I don't know who johnr9q is. Maybe he doesn't exist.

hey there say, johnr9q... say, please, you do not waste your time posting...
there are many bits of gold here, and the good 'gold nugget' folks
will chip in precious treasure for any climbing threads, however:
however, at times, their mind wanders, so hang in there...
like a good climb, work through the 'route' here and you'll
get some good climbing buddies, that will 'come up along side' and,
the gold will be a bit easier to see, find, or use,
for whatever the questions or posts, are about...
say, there may be some more threads about what you wanted to know, originally ...
i will go try to hunt some down...
can't do it tonight, though...
but i will sure try to do it tomorrow...
happy good eve to you...
hope you do NOT go away and that you do NOT become

I've toproped two 12a's in gym in the past few months (my belayer may have kept the rope a little tight but I didn't ask him to do that, and I don't think I would have fallen anyway), so I'd like to participate in the poll from your deleted thread.
Could you undelete it please?

hey there say, blahblah... that would be really, neat, if he did...
thanks for putting some encouragement here...
say, johnr9q:
hope to see it...
:)
perhaps we can link some other similar STUFF to it,
once me or others, find some more links that have been
shared on such info, from anything previous in the past
threads... sometimes they are hard to find,
due to the various way things are titled, :)
also, not sure if i SAW your thread, either,
johnr9q, but, i am not a climber, so i could not have helped much, :(
but, when i am not so busy, i like to share, in some way...
or, look for smaller threads to bump-up, and give folks
a chance to post on... but--
this last two years, i been a lot more busy, so i just
try to jump in fast, :))
say, johnr9q... hope it is okay, i went back, to see if i could find what you posted, well, of course, it was deleted, but, i did see a
part of a question, that went on it...
did not share it, as was not sure if you'd want me to??
well, got to run, now...
happy good eve, to all, :)

Hey johnr9q. Do yourself a big favor:
Leave the supertopo crowd to themselves.
The utter predictability of the pseudo-hip, negative responses, that will inevitably follow this post will confirm my above recommendation.

Even if a question is asked perfectly the majority of responders won't answer it. It's not just supertopo . Same thing happens in my job. Only 10-20% of people really read and respond the way you want. You need a big pitchfork to separate the wheat from the bullshlt.
You can never control a thread. It's like a game of telephone. It's just gets weirder from one post to the next.
People hate it when you delete a thread. You delete their responses too. You really shouldn't even be able to do it. Once you deleted the first thread your second thread was doomed to failure.
So you post here because it's a challenge. Just like climbing.

First ,most stay the course, the MP is only 5 yr plan climbers. There is a more direct question / answer, thing over there but the actual level of quality is better here mostly. That is not to say that the best are not over there they are. So you need both if training information is important.
An answer to the question - train to climb, climb to climb?
As I think I recall it ? The thing is that for each individual the place on a curve, the curve that charts where you are in "your" climbing trajectory. It is a personal thing.
At 5 years into climbing, then adding your age and the number difficulty of the climbs you started failing at , when you started moving up to the 5.11 to 5.12, I think that it has been agreed earlier that is where average abilities take one.
.Then , the extra training becomes necessary to progress,
in the mix is the regular but never to be neglected strength to weight ratio.
The context , timing and some times a deeper meaning in the response to a simple question
Sometimes sarcastically fired 'shots' from Captain Obvious.
The questions often lead to nowhere sometimes you get the funniest conversations
Crossing threads.
It is not a data base of Blk n' white answers. You have unwittingly in this thread
Had a response that has me saying two things,
At the top of 'INSUHLATION' ( or; O.D. Direct)@the Gunks is a finger crack through a roof that has always been attributed to jStan.... Now forever named... What are we? Chopped Liva ?
Whaddah We ? Chopped Liva?(thing is 5.11!)guide says 5.10
Hahahah I'm dyin' here really ....
thus the mosquitos drawn in by the flame...
Galsa, a Gunks climb to climb forever, one of the best climbs anywhere.
At 5.4 a near vertical face leads to a dead vertical corner, 190 feet of 5.fun.
more than just a ladder of horizontals, it has a move or two. Maybe a back-step, it takes some thought.
I've always understood the name, Gelsa to mean misquote!,
The name of the hardest 5.10 in the Gunks is the answer to this threads question why...
it is no coincidence that it is also a jstan, FA
No Exit(thing is 5.11 too!) Guide books say 5.10....
Un fortunately a deep understanding for the last 50 years of climbing history is needed to really grasp that there is funny stuff in four words but I assure you there is gold that bubbles up with the swamp gas. As for fishing - while off shore has its rewards - the bayou hides monsters too
To anyone that wants ya' should check out the original post and the responses to it to get the flavor and context of the above post.....find in the deleted thread......

The Fet - it's just chaff, Man.
Wheat from the CHAFF.
BTW, you need a sieve - not a pitchfork.
Sorry to be the corrective type - I hate that as much as anybody...

When you delete a thread you start, you essentially deleted everyone elses responses as well, thus encouraging pithy one line responses with no thought our substance behind it. (ie, why waste ones time). I only found this single thread deleted http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=2051471&tn=460#msg2772408, do you have a link for the 2nd one?
John9r asked, quote:
"I don't know why I waste my time posting here. Let me explain. Earlier today I created 2 threads, simply asking if people had opinions on "Is the best workout program for climbing, climbing. In the first thread the people posted with appropriate responses but weren't answering my question. (It was probably my fault for not asking the question correctly) so a deleted the Thread. I then made another post which asked the same question but in a different way and received totally inappropriate responses so I deleted that and asked the current question: I don't know why I waste my time posting here. I guess I should have left well enough alone and not asked that last question but I have asked questions before on Supertopo and received good responses but I guess there are some herein that enjoy doing what they do. Is Mountain Project the place to post serious questions? I know at the beginning of Supertopo, you could get a straight answer. What happened? Are the people that post here climbers?"
