I've always viewed female climbers as generally tougher and less ego driven - ideal wall climbers, especially soloists.
The lack of ego-driven is one of the disconnects. To suffer that way depends largely on some measure of ego-drive.
Oh, and in my experience, women are smarter... too smart to engage in such a perverse activity!

To me it appears flat out boring compared to the elegance of free climbing.

There are plenty of female aid climbers out there - half the people I meet while carrying loads (as I am not a BW climber) are women. While you were soloing, Meg, I believe there were two female soloist climbing as well and countless parties with female climbers. Oh, and let's not forget Anita514 climbing Triple Direct with Pete & another partner (way to go, Anita!).
Also, recently, there were two female climbers that I believe set the speed record on the NA wall and there've been two female speed record attempts on the Salathe this month. I know there's a lot of free climbing on those routes, but there is aid as well.
In my opinion, and I meet a lot of aid climbers, many are women.
Not that I'm keeping track or anything...

Oh god...come on this must be a troll. In the last two months there have been multiple threads about essentially the same thing. All quite entertaining and attract the same crowd of people. Continuing to discuss the same subject but using slightly different arguments.
OP, if you really have been in the meadow in the last few weeks you would see plenty of females crushing.
I honestly think the proportion of males climbing walls to total number of trad climbing males is not greater than proportion of females who climb walls to total number of females that climb trad.
Plenty of females who do badass stuff on big walls in greater ranges. Check this article out, was reading it a few days ago and getting inspired by the drive of this person. Not because she is a female, but because she is a human doing badass stuff that requires a lot of mental strength, physical strength and a variety of other qualities only few posses.

Guyman, her name is Alaina. And we are doing some walls together this or next year! Lucky to have her as a partner and a friend. I had a pleasure to climb my first two walls with females. My first two el cap routes with a female too. Great partners and friends all of them.
PS: maybe a surprise, but females also have egos. I would say all humans do to some extent. I am sure some of the people on the forum may or already have posted who has a bigger ego, but I'd say it is not as relevant. It depends on an individual. As their personal excitement to climb, do walls or do other stuff.
I predict 'why aren't there more female ice climbers' thread to hit the taco in the next month!

There are so few female climbers for the same reason there are so few
females in Alaska:
The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

There's no women up there.
Only men.
Real men
Not women ......

This is true. I know more female wall soloists than male soloists... well, that consistently solo walls that is.
I honestly think the proportion of males climbing walls to total number of trad climbing males is not greater than proportion of females who climb walls to total number of females that climb trad.
This falls in line with what I've noticed as well.
Columbus day weekend there were 13 people on dinner ledge, each party had at least one female. Of the 7 or 8 parties I saw on Washington column in those 3 days dealing with bullsh#t, only one party was 2 dudes.
I think being small and often comfortable on climbing trips makes walls hard to do. To me it isn't the Sex of the climber that limits their style but what they get out of it - even Warbler would be surprised at the number of men who utterly refuse to climb on gear because it's scary. Staggering.
Oh man, was that a stab at Anita?! ;)
Why, don't you have to lead to be considered a wall climber...?

Oh I see, so the OP is semi famous for soloing a wall while eating insect based food throughout her climb (as I understand)....
A good female friend of mine did Salathe in a day twice this season. Her female friend (we were showing her how to ascent a bolt ladder a year ago!) was starting to solo ZM a few days ago...Emily Harrington freed the golden gate last spring...a ton of other random females climbing up there. You can't seriously expect the number of females on walls to be EQUAL to the number of males. There are simply way many more males who are into this stuff.
Greg, that was a friendly poke at Anita. I don't know and don't care if she led up there. I hope she had an awesome experience and got stoked on climbing or hanging out in Yosemite. There is no right or wrong. You are either stoked, think it is ok or hate it. Having the right partners is a good way to get excited about something and it seems like Pete is someone she likes, so wish them many more enjoyable climbs. No matter how fast or how much leading each one does. To me a climber is someone who goes up. I can let others argue about what it means to be a 'real' climber. Pointless discussion. :)
average climber is now a domesticated animal. With a helmet.
Lycra vs a helmet

Warbler: Some women are pretty tough. I've seen my fair share of pussy "tough" guys, whining and bitching instead of sacking up and getting sh#t done.
I'm sorry you seem to have had negative experiences with women. Have you tried men? They might be gentler with you.
Edit: thanks Vitaliy. I think I got the stoke, as much as a lame ass like me can. Looking forward to getting dragged up El Cap again this spring. Woot.

And definitely, plenty of women aid climbers out there with bigger balls and biceps than me.

Balls and biceps do not a climber make. Intelligence, supple strength and coolness under pressure do. Traits that many women possess in abundance.

That wonderful girl from Stanford, Chris Chan, who died coming off Cathedral Peak, she soloed the Zodiac; she proved you can be an incredibly sweet girl and a tough aid climber; How many guys have soloed the Zodiac? Not that many.
