Uhmmm Ward...that was pretty insane. Seriously recommend dedicating yourself to being at more peace. Your apparent mindset seems very uncomfortable and unpleasant to me. Best wishes.

I don't and he won't.
The world NEEDS oil right now..Among many good reasons, it is the only way to have the resources needed to replace oil. Sadly we probably won't take advantage of the time we have left to do so.

Of course most of the great mountains in the US are named after 19th century politicians. There was nothing great or memorable about these people, that mountains should be named after them. We should change as many of them back as possible. I recently started a thread about this for the Colorado 14ers but have not thought about it much since:
Native American Names of Colorado 14ers?

18 letters; each name averages six letters long.

Coincidence?
I think not.

In the Koyukon dialect of Athabascan languages it means something really strange obscure and unexpected.
used in context..The big mountain. By itself the words de' nae' li mean "the big/biggest one/thing. The words that became Denali could be equally used for singling out any largest item one is discussing. Kinda a lame name really. But it has stuck in Alaska.
There is another set of south side (Denaina (the big people lol) or anglicized Tanana) Athabascan native names for the three prominently visible Alaska range peaks that are more romantic and descriptive...
They mean Parent-Uncle (which is the most common male parent roletaker in their original culture not the biological father), Mother and child for Denali Foraker and Hunter. Hunter is Beguya (the child) Foraker is Sultana (mother) and Denali is Dghelay Ka’a or anglicized as Traleika

Seems like naming mountains is a little outside the job description of the President.

Crucial distinction is that Obama is The President representing all of America. Ward only represents himself. Obama thumbs his nose at that obligation. He is a radical extremist with an agenda ---and that agenda is nothing less than the transformation of this country to ,among other things ,reflect Obama's overblown pathologically narcissistic ego.
Personally I don't care if they name that mountain " big icy climbers toilet " and the Narcissist in Chief could have shut his big mouth and made sure the bureaucratic name change took place under the radar-- but instead he decides to openly and arrogantly announce it.
What an as#@&%e.Seriously King-sized.
Just to preserve Ward Trotter's post because it is so out there.
Nutty, I tell ya.

I really am enjoying reading some of the responses considering many here were obviously in favor of renaming North Palisade to that politically inclined dudes name a couple of years ago... ah, started with a "B".
Carry on.

Yeah it is kinda odd..not sure why this particular native name version became such a cause in Alaska. The mountain does have a place in native mythology but under what name or even what the story or stories are I am not sure.
Still for some reason I don't fully understand I'm pretty happy to see this happen.

it's being renamed purely to piss off Ward (Obama's extremist agenda since 2008).

Even if Denali means 'piece of shite' it's better than naming it after an Anglo piece of shite/politician.

Right on Wade. That was precisely my exact sentiments regarding the sneaky attempt to rename North Pal.

NP some two dozen times from both east and west. It's sorta a hotspot of the paying folks from So Cal and a must do when I was a guide.
Now way on the Big Mac attack. That thang is far too much of a Hipster Hill friday eve at the T-time Clubhouse conversation piece.
"Next, Please...."
Edit: I could give fk what they officially call it. Cus it's nothing more than a Commercial for Black Diamond and the rest of the multi-million dollar Big Corp Wall Street Chinese manu'd climbing "Industry". The entity that so many climbers these days, including here on ST, supposedly disdain so much...
