With Ron i've done a bit of climbing, a bit of hunting, a fair bit of work, and a whole lot of reading of his always entertaining posts. WTF is this place coming to? The Chief was right in one of his recent emails, " I give ST six months before it self destructs".

Are some of you deliberately and disingenuously forgetting exactly how rude Ron could be.
Not to mention how rude some of his defenders can regularly be.
Not as rude as you can be Philo. I've never thought either of you should be banned... in fact I like both of you.
I don't expect everyone to be polite all the time or get along.

If Ron went involuntarily, then I no longer understand the protocols here. Ron's attacks differed little, if at all, from those of many other members who remain here. Besides, Ron posted significant climbing content, too. If anything, the personal attacks against Ron struck me as far worse than anything he originated.
Unless he took a voluntary sabbatical, it's not a good day for the Forum.

Philo posts who he is and has a long history as a climber. Ron as well.
Crankster on the other hand is a faceless troll. Lets see your face Crankster.. on a climb.. not just a picture of a rock if you are the climber you claim to be.

This makes me sad. We are all elements of something that has been built over years. It's falling apart like Kathmandu. Civility and tolerance are our rebar, and there doesn't seem to be enough of it here anymore to keep what was built, standing.
I tend to be kind of oblivious of the squabbles a lot of you seem to be having all the time with each other. I know Ron was controversial. He started a lot of political and firearm-related threads, which seemed to get a lot of people agitated. I always just ignore what doesn't interest me so it never bothered me.
But Ron also posted climbing content. He contributed a lot in that way. And the posts from him that I read were always civil. I've read plenty of posts directed at him that were personal attacks, very nasty.
To me personally he was always nice, even sweet. I hope to meet him and climb together some day.

I'm sorry he's gone. I've never once been offended by his posts even if I often disagreed with him or when he criticized me; I understood his point of view. He was a devil's advocate and was also fun to test, which made him amusing at times. As John said, if he was booted, it's a low day for the forum.
