Hank left a long time ago.
He said he was mostly done with this place.
The drama on this site is at/in epic proportions.
The people who really contribute quality stuff are humbly and quietly still posting.
The drama queens always take front and center stage and give the impression of an impending apocalypse ......

I'm thinking they didn't like some of the anti-management tone on the "don't nuke me" thread.

Thanks for the clarification, Big Mike.
What do we do, again, when the going gets weird?

All of these sites come an go. "Neice.com" used to be fantastic for ice climbers in New England. There was a real community and we were able to make a lot of climbing trips happen.
Now it's just a ghost town.
Anyone remember lexicomm.com/climbing? I loved that site... poof...
Perhaps supertopo is just long in the tooth and imploding all on it's own. Perhaps it has become self-aware and doesn't like what it sees.

Well now! Always a deep subject.
When things are out of control, and the ST Gods are loose
There's the rational choice.
The Friday Night Posting While Drunk Thread.

If you fast-forward to the last drunk posts, don't be distressed by the photos. The hairy male poster/postuer will soon be sacrificed to the Super-topo Gods to keep the rest of us safe.
All praise the ST Gods!

How could you delete that? That's the sort of post that got me interested in Supertopo, and made me decide to buy guidebooks from this establishment.

I agree, a lot of history has been lost.
Maybe they could delete the last post that got them banned and leave the rest.
It is a shame to lose all that info.

Well, I'm glad I arrived on ST when I did. It's been pretty awesome. Nothing remains the same as I well know.

hey there say, lynne...
as to this:
Well, I'm glad I arrived on ST when I did. It's been pretty awesome. Nothing remains the same as I well know.
1--i know how you feel... i've been glad to find the supertopo,
and the trail here led to many good friends, a LOT of quality climber insight, GREAT STORIES, and learning about all kinds of climbers, and:
fringe benefit, seeing stuff that my brother has posted... :)
2--i sure understand the 'nothing remains the same' (not making you old, now, mind you) hee hee, but:
since i have 'chalked up a few' years, i too, have seen very much so:
so many things change and most are beyond our control...
we work with what we can, or should....
we help change what we can, or should...
we roll with the punches, if we can...
and we help with 'anchors' in the storms,
and encourage, along the way, the best we can...
it's worked in so many situations, over the years...
here's to our supertopo to weather any and all storms,
for the future folks to enjoy too... :)
ps:
no where else would i have learned of the sweet love-story,
of you and your husband... i hold that wonderful part of your life,
very dear... and your new life that you stepped into, as:
amazing...
ps:
oh, and of course, would never have learned of the wonderful
todd gordon family, :)
ps:
or, learned who ol' hankster is, and be happy to call him and his
wife, friends... :)

i could never pronounce 'hank' anyway.
this place is becoming a broke-down palace.
like a hovel.
which suits us dirtbag climbers and lawyers alike.
'all the birds have flown, except you alone.."
hey who ate all the salsa and put the jar back empty?
pass me that lone shoe, i'm going to steal your lace,
you can keep your face.
bye hunnk, maybe i'll see you around in the
warm world.
get you and your's to strawberry.
good things are going down, here.

What? Hank was THE best. Say it ain't so?! That bold and brave Southern Belle second ascent tale of his and Alan Lester's attempt at the route which ended in near disaster with Hank being carrying down the trail by Alan (who's not that big of a guy) was gold. There's no way he'd ever get banned, dude was always so nice to everyone. I wonder if he self-immolated. It's too bad his material wasn't left behind, he had some amazing photos of he and his wife base jumping into Crystal blue water that were world class good.
Damn.........?!
