Cool story you guys. There is nothing like an unplanned bivvy to really appreciate a summit, especially when the night dips well below freezing. I've had more than a couple. We climbed it in the mid '80's, no bivvy that time though. We went over north Dragon Pass somewhat altered. Climbed Fin Dome too.

Thanks for reviving this thread. I still have a couple of projects on my to do list on Clarence King. Beautiful peak, and beautiful area.

Thank you for that trip down memory lane. I did this route back in 78' and really enjoyed it.
But that's impossible...the first ascent wasn't done until 2006! :)

MegaBUMP for an amazing peak!
That whole area is one of my favorites in the sierra! Such a beautiful place!
I climbed the southeast ridge with my sister and girlfriend a couple of years ago. It was pretty wild to have climbed the "hardest" climb in the country as of the ninteenth century! We were looking over at that northeast ridge the whole time! Congratulations!

Now this was a thread worth a bump or two! There are still routes to do in that vicinity, but I'm not telling where! ;-)

Nice report (and nice send). Distances back in that area are deceiving. I camped in Sixty Lakes years back with the intent of climbing Clarence King and was surprised by, despite how much scrambling I did, the peak still seemed really far away. Never did summit. That Sixty Lakes Basin is absolutely beautiful though.
Since you know how to get back there, I'd like to see a trip report on the E. Face of Mt. Cotter. That looks nice.

http://www.summitpost.org/northeast-ridge/228790
some pics are still up on his summitpost trip report.
We were hoping to do the south face last week, but punted and climbed fin dome instead.
It looks so far away from the southern end of 60 lakes. The NE ridge looks like a beast from fin dome but so obvious and a "I dare you to climb me" type ridge.
