I think it was '79 or so when I drove out to Josh and spend winter break. One night somebody took a few of us around HVCG and showed us the Hobbit Hole.
Then we walked over to Real Hidden Valley and followed him through this narrow chasm in the boulders. It got kind of tight going through there, but you come out the other side on the belay ledge at the top of the first pitch of some route or other.
Lotsa beer that night. I have no idea what that one was called.

Next question that's coming is how to find and get through the Chasm of Doom. That question is easy to answer. Late at night, no headlamps, and plenty of beers consumed before hand around the campfire after a night of lies.
Ha ha. One new years eve (1984 maybe?) a troop of about 20 of us wandered through that sans lights at midnight.
BASE, this is probably the one you are referring to.

For full value in the Chasm you need to do The Oven as well.

This particular chasm turned into a squeeze chimney which you traversed along. There was a horizontal crack for you to shuffle your feet along, so it was very safe and easy.
Cool, though. Quartz now has some burrowing in the boulderfields going on.

^^ Sounds similar BASE104 but it was 30 years and a couple of beers ago. I just remember a lot of traversing through horizontal paths that seemed to have exposure at times.
edit: It was literally pitch black that night; every thing was by feel. The hand & foot holding kept things moving.

You can climb straight up an it's much faster and easier, IMO. Just a 5.9 move that you don't want to blow.

hahah. Sounds awful familiar and about the right time frame. I might have been in that troop. Wonder if I could find that again all these years later.
Planning on being back there back for this new years. Gonna be fun.
Great story, Warbler!

A memorable New Years Eve occurred when the vigilant rangers permitted the NyE party below the Space Station. The festivities began with beautiful topless dancing girls spotlighted in the Space Station followed by the MC zip lining to make a grand entrance in the party zone. Unfortunately the MC got stuck in mid zip line. He was rescued and a night of outlandish debauchery ensued.
If you went to pee in the dark outside the party zone a ranger immediately put a flashlight on you and threatened your well being.
Never the less a fun time was had by all.

Many good memories over the years from the Space Station with some bros who absolutely disappeared and have not seen in years: Eric Held, Bob Cox, Bob Critchfield, Andre Olibri (who I hear is still around, just not climbing)). Fortunately, not a single mishap, despite ample opportunity for it. Like Pud's picture, time to start sharing the experience with my own posse of little rock punks.
BTW, when did people start leaving crap inside?

Me too!!!
Winter Spring 1990. I got the full night tour way before I was ready. Whoever led it managed the headspace like a true magician. Night group free soloing to the Space Station at the end of a long mystical feel through the Chasm, up and down and over who knows what....
"Put your foot here" says the wizard standing below me in Space. "Climb around and in."
"There you go"
Formative.
