Since we've had multiple ropes donated, we'll hold a special "Thank You" drawing for one of them on Saturday the 16th...
Anyone that has made a donation by midnight of Friday Sept 15th, will be eligible to win a brand new 60m rope. No worries though, as this will not remove you from the big drawing! 8^)

The website reports that 263 tickets have been sold so far. Some at $25/each, some at 3 for $50. Assuming all were sold at the latter price, works out to about $4,400, less PayPal and shipping & handling costs. So there's some work to do, but a bit of time to do it in.
Hopefully the Mammoth event tonight will go well.

Bachar one day in Tuolumne says let's go down to Le Vining. We get into that red VW bus that he had back then. When we hit the downhill part of Tioga Pass he pulls out the sax and starts playing the thing using his knees to hold and steer the bus.
He pulled it out of gear and killed the engine, we're coasting now. Fukk! he's not using the brakes either. The psycho is gonna kill us on the bottom of the grade, that last turn will do it for sure. The speedometer is pinned at max and he's laughing and still playing that friggen thing. He tells me to hang on as we enter that last turn.
Yikes, we're gonna roll this stupid bus for sure.
Hah, didn't happen ...... but he did blow the generator. We coasted all the way to 395. Got to Le Vining and he had to buy a new generator.

ELKO — Six people are dead following three separate crashes on regional highways this weekend — and troopers say driver inattention, high speeds and failure to wear seat belts played a role in each of the tragedies.
Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Rocky Gonzalez said driver inattention and speed contributed to all of the crashes.
“The weather’s nice so the speeds are higher,” Gonzalez said. “When traveling long distances people need to remember to take breaks.”

The third crash occurred on Sunday when a California man was killed after the vehicle he was in rolled on U.S. 93 about 33 miles north of Ely.
John Martin Bachar III, 49, of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., was driving south on U.S. 93 at 7:25 p.m. when he allowed his Toyota 4Runner to drift off the west road edge.
Bachar overcorrected to the left, the Toyota went across both lanes to the east shoulder and overturned.
“During the course of the rollover, a passenger seated in the rear was ejected,” Gonzalez said.
The ejected passenger, a 40-year-old man from El Sobrante, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released until after next of kin is notified.
Bachar and a third passenger, Anastasia Elleni Frangos, 33, of Santa Paula, Calif., suffered numerous injuries. Both were transported to William B. Ririe Hospital in Ely.
Haven't seen any more facts on this. As a father, I have always tried to teach my son that actions have consequences. I especially am paying considerable attention to his progress learning probably the most dangerous activity that he will ever participate in.
I hope that the first story is entirely unrelated to the second, and that jb matured since then. But climber's are a narcissistic lot. We all pay for that one way or the other.

If you look at the list of prizes....which would you like to win the most?
I think for me the Devil's Tower one. It would give me a reason to plan a trip to a new destination..

I received an email earlier today from a climber wanting to know how to make a donation in excess of $50... I responded accordingly.
About 45 minutes ago, I received a typical canned email from PayPal stating that a donation had been made, yet when I quickly scanned it for the details to add to the website, I about hit the floor when I saw the donation was $500.
I immediately called this person to personally thank him on behalf on the entire climbing community, and during our conversation, I discovered that he's a new climber that's only been at it for a little over a year. It turns out that he was in the Mammoth area climbing last week, and happened to catch the slide-show and fundraising event, and was so touched by the out pouring of love and support from the climbing community, that he felt compelled to donate what he was able...
I also found out that he's currently tip-toeing into trad, so if anyone in the Bay area would like to "hook a brotha up" and take him under your wing, I would be happy to provide his contact info privately.
Anyway, I just wanted to share! :~)

Tim, it might be beneficial to change the title of the post if you're able to edit it. Now that it's 100% up and running it might catch more attention if you make a more bold statement in the title. Maybe Chris can give permission to the coding guys to get it "stickied" at the top? Not sure if that's an option in the format, but it would be nice to see this get a more prominent display.

Is there a way someone might put together some little flyer or something for this that I could print out and give to climbing buddies who may not spend much time reading about climbing on the net etc. and not know about this, but would likely love to donate?
I could just write the address down on scraps of paper, but a flyer would be great - I can obviously just print something out to give to people myself, but I was thinking more like, well, maybe someone might already have the info on what the raffle's for, the list of prizes etc. already somewhere so I wouldn't have to retype it all into a flyer... otherwise, I can.

$8300 in donations with just a couple of weeks left to go? Come on folks -- we've got to be able to do better than this. I know everyone on this site has probably seen it and donated according to their own means, but what about our buddies who climb but don't fritter their lives away on the internet?
I know climbing gyms aren't really our bag, but I'm heading over to all three of them in the PHX area this weekend to make sure something about this is posted where every one can see it. Maybe some of youse guys can do the same in your area. You can't get blood from a turnip, but that's probably a good indicator we should stop squeezing the vegetables and do a better job of promoting this where we can find some "live ones".
