Your parents filled you with lies that have made you suggestible and unrealistic. Studies show that you likely have an inability to distinguish fantasy from reality. I love science.

The thread is a blatant manipulative lie. You don't offer anything. Religion doesn't offer a single real thing. It's entirely based on people's willingness to lie and make false promises of salvation. Irresponsible liars, the lot.

I was a serious Christian till my mid 20's, had just as many bouts of depression before as after. I mean a real Christian, tattooed a silly fish on my arm, waited till I was 25 to have sex (I like to believe it was by choice) and went to church every Sunday morning and Wednesday night. Amazing how friendly church folk were when I had real problems, nothing a 3 minute prayer couldn't fix. Now that I believe in nothing I can see that the majority of people are mostly good intentioned, but everyone is a little selfish-even church folk. I'm glad you found something that works for you, I'll take quarterly throws into depression over fake friends.

Seems like a lot of gay Christian kids wind up committing suicide because their families don't accept them as they are, attempt to force them into heterosexuality (reverse that and imagine what that might feel like), or outright reject them. Oh, and they're taught to believe that God doesn't approve of the way they were born.

You do get to believe in winged supernatural humanoids who live forever, though, so there's that.

Christianity as a cure for depression?

Good luck with that.

Braunini,
This religious horseshit belongs in the dustbin of history.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, right genius?

And you sure say campfire a lot for being sick of it.

Do you think that micronut can offer what he claims. Never mind, you won't get it.

I'm offering freedom from suffering. Honest! No really! Serious!

And, no doubt that I can be a true dick. The world is made up of dicks and bitches and you're no dick.

You can't blame a guy for trying. I respect your effort, Scott.

religion is a substitute for resolve.
a mock dream for those whom run short on creative verve.

it band aids the sting of life,
by strangling the mystery's pulse.

when a physicist encounters a void in his understanding
(for example the theory of everything)
does he make up an equation and
sell it as valid?

despite the fact that nearly every inspection
of his work screams bullshite?

thanks for the offer, micronut,
but i choose to endure upon my own faculties.

I think Micronut is a great guy even though I don't agree with him, there's tolerance for you. I'm not religious but I am really happy and I have been through the ups and downs in life like a lot of us. The real issue is that everyone needs to find their own path to happiness not salvation. the journey (life) is all we have so whatever way you find to enjoy the journey, justify your own existence and hopefully help some people out along the way is whats important. Why can't I be a good happy person just because its the right thing to do? Micro is trying to reach out and send some love and for that I respect him but I'm not buying what their selling. And those of you that are so hateful towards him and religion seem just as judgmental as the religion you dislike so much.

Good for you and your beliefs. It doesn't cure mental illness, however.

Politically, some of the angriest and most hateful people are aligned with the Christian Right.
