Reilly! Re your question: So did Crimpie's cadaver cat ever find Donini?
They haven't met when I've been around. Pente's a cool cat!
RyanD: Cats are OK, in fact the local packs of coyotes are extremely welcoming to cats & small dogs.
Open carry of weapons bigger than a folding knife makes many climbers uncomfortable.
Grippa! Castle Rock was pleasant last weekend! Very interesting, its been pretty nice some afternoons here in Choss Creek with highs in the high 40's. It doesn't get above freezing at Castle Rock this weekend. Speaking of which, there are places at COR where folks ice climb on frozen seeps.
However, I'm going to be restrained about going to COR until Spring springs.

Right now it looks like I'll be there on around June 19th or 20th. Yeah, I'll probably miss the main party.
Ron, Perhaps I can swing through Reno on the way up and we can enjoy some alcahol, tobacco and firearms and climbing somewhere there on good old American land of the free. Bring your dog, we're going to need someone sober to drive. I'll pick up a dead skunk on along the way and we can have a "hair-on" BBQ!
This fun gathering is giving me an idea. We should all host "Supertopo" family gatherings at our home crags throughout the year. It's already been done but should happen much more.

Thanks for the reply fritz. Always wanted to check out COR. Looks beautiful. And no worries, I'll leave my dog & gun at home if I can make it. Come to think of it I don't even know where one would go about getting a gun around here?

I love COR.....perfect featured granite, just enough quality cracks and in a beautiful, low stress setting. Seems to be about a 50/50 split between trad and sport covering a good spectrum of grades. Not the place if you're seeking multi-pitch or 5.14 but idyllic for nearly everything else.
The camping is very pleasant and the climbing allows for chasing the sun or shade as the case may be. There is a campground host and a couple of unobtrusive rangers who make the experience better in contrast to places like Yosemite.
A gathering of the tribe would be great....perhaps starting around the time that Spider will be there. We wouldn't want him to miss out.

YES!
However, Donini COR geezer-fest 2013 was June 10-16, which unfortunately was also the week that the county treated the road through COR with Magnesium Chloride. That, combined with daily thunderstorms made the roads messy and coated the underside of my SUV so thickly that I still had glops of Mag-Chloride dropping off last fall.
You never know what you are going to get for June weather there, but it likely won't be perfect. Later June will likely be less stormy that earlier June.
Let me check with COR management to see if they have a clude as to the dates they will apply Magnesium Chloride this year.

We have a group camp reserved at City of Rocks for the nights of Monday June 23rd -Thursday June 26th, with checkout on Friday June 27th.
I had dinner with Donini & his wife Angela the night of the Outdoor Retailer Jeff Lowe award. He worked me to get off my ass and make reservations for a camp at City of Rocks, with a preference for a week earlier. I spent a while at the online reservation site, and was astounded to find that all my favorite large van-friendly campsites at COR were reserved during those dates. (Everything at Smoky Mountain was still open----but I missed camping with the rocks and the views last year.)
However! I was able to reserve the group camp out at Twin Sisters for the nights of Monday June 23 thru 26, with checkout on Friday June 27. El Donini confirmed those dates work for him, as did Ralph Tingey (AK Trad), Brokedownclimber, and even Spider Savage thinks he can make it towards the end of the week.
We do want to invite other like-minded folks, young or old.
The Group Camp is a great private place with scenic views, a fair number of tent spots and parking spots, a toilet, and climbing right from camp. 12-30 people are allowed. Not a lot of afternoon shade, but we have a large fly we can rig.
I have been in contact with the Eastern Holy Man, & he believes he may be able to visit too. He does share my concerns about camping with a larger group. We do ask group-camp attendees to leave their pets and their small children at home, both for the safety of the small children & pets, and also to maintain a harmonious environment for all attendees.
RSVP! (Idaho parlance for: Reserve potatoes via phoning.)
Please confirm in private and I will keep a list of attendees that I will not make public, or if you want to be public---confirm on this site.
Namaste.
