"Mr. Robinson" is what some ST members adoringly call the dude on some wacko reality show who believes in the literal translation of the Bible; hence, like the Taliban, the long beards, the gay-bashing and the racism.

What are you guys even talking about?
A member of a reality TV show, about backwoods hicks, said something typical of a backwoods hick.
A lot of people got their panties bunched.
And then when their beloved market forces went to work on the hick, the conservatives got their panties in a bunch.

This thread is worthless without Cragman making a post about how he loves little brown kids and how Mr. Robinson is just a victim of PC hatemongers that want to take away his right to free speech. Some of his best friends are minorities...

Last time I checked being really stupid is not illegal. And A&E has every right to fire the guy as they choose, so there's really nothing to argue about here.
Perspective: the proud nation of Uganda just reduced the mandatory sentence for aggravated homosexuality from death to life in prison at the discretion of the judge.

Aww. That is so sweet. Couchmaster loves Cragman. I don't think Mr. Robinson would approve.

I think many are just so upset over the War on Christmas they've let their emotions get the better of them.

I believe that anyone with blonde hair is an idiot, that they have no function in society and should change who they are just like rapists and pedophiles. Of course, these are just my opinions and I have the right to free speech.

I am not a Christian ( certainly not a fundamentalist) ,nor am I a card carrying secular liberal.
What I despise is arrogance, condescension , and hypocrisy---not really on an individual level, since we all are guilty--- but as expressed on a national level , by dueling political groups seeking to silence the opposition , so that only their own value system predominates.
In 1987, Andre Sarano took a photograph of Christ on the cross in a jar of urine. It won the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art’s “Awards in the Visual Arts” competition, which was sponsored in part by taxpayers.
Outraged Christians were told they didn’t have to see it. They did not have to go to the museum. Their money, of course, had to fund the National Endowment for the Arts, but they themselves just needed to ignore it. Christians needed to show tolerance to for the diversity of others’ thoughts.
More than just Christians were offended by this, as non-Christians were indignant that taxpayers money was used to fund this type of "Art".
Anyone who opposed such lofty expression were interested only in "censorship."
In 1996, Chris Ofili created a painting of the Virgin Mary. He employed pornographic images and elephant dung. Rudy Giuliani, then Mayor of New York City, tried to yank taxpayer funding for the Brooklyn Museum because of the painting. Giuliani was pilloried in the press for doing so. Tolerance was demanded. Christians did not have to go to the museum if they wanted.
It all depends on whose ox is being gored, doesn't it?
In the old days a team of oxen were often forcibly driven by teamsters who used a long pole with a sharp metal prod at the business end. This pole was called a "prick". Oxen who didn't like this were said to be : " kicking against the prick"
Some people have become a lot like oxen , spending more and more of their time kicking against the prick.

I have to laugh at the success of a typical entertainment ploy, i.e. "any publicity is good publicity, as long as they spell your name right." If anyone were really interested in Christian doctrine, rather than stirring up publicity, they'd have a field day on the typical internet message forum, because Jesus told us that anyone who calls another an idiot is morally guilty of murder (Matt. 5:22). Are there any of us here that are innocent?

If by "symbol" you mean "anything that might represent something" than yes, there are 'things' that I care about. People press my buttons all the time, but never via a sign or inanimate object. People treating eachother shitty gets me pretty often around here, but I hardly call that a 'symbol' of anything.
But no, Symbols are not important to me. At least as they are being discussed here (lightning bolt, cross, flag, whatever...)
I'm 29, not 13. I've lived a long enough life to know who I am now. Thanks.

you're human and you have your symbols too.
GDavis:
I liked your recent trip report. Well-written. I especially liked your use of the metaphorical symbol "my shield" . Keep climbing and keep writing.

But boyyeeee if someone is connected to religion of a Christian type the WAR is on. Unless, of course, you are like Micronut or Lynne L. and don't focus on the negativity of organized religion but rather for good. In which case you'll not only be accepted but praised as a good example of said culture.
But carry on.

Thanks, Ward. An analogy more than a symbol - there is no physical 'shield' for someone to desecrate and hurt my feelings with though, unlike every other example in this thread (piss-christ, Stonemaster Lightning Bolt) :) just a turn-of-phrase used to evoke an emotion.
