He's been told a dozen times that the employer mandate doesn't kick in till 2015 - but, like a little child, still desperately wants to believe the wingnut gibberish that lies to him about it.
The mandate doesn't kick in until 2015 but a lot of companies are already moving forward with it. My company is starting Oct 1. They are being VERY strict about no part timers working 30 hours or more.

So, let's say the shutdown happens. Who mans the gates to stop people from entering?

DOI contingency plans, including NPS, are available here:
http:/www.doi.gov/shutdown/index.cfm
not likely to have the kind of local detail that many folks on here hope to find, though.
another disaster for tuolumne and mariposa counties. first the rim fire and now this. during the last shutdown, mariposa county lost 10k a day in tax revenue from visitors and furloughed residents. that was in 1995.

I'm getting a 404 from that link. I meant the previous post as a joke but you bring up some valid points about lost revenue. This will most likely not come to that as the fence sitters always seem to get off the fence at the last minute.

If you look at that list, most of the employers listed are school districts and colleges,
not "evil" corporations that Barry gave a waver altogether to or an extension to 15..

Werner, probably.
Volunteer, most likely.

Werner, probably.
LOL. So they'll clone Werner to be able to handle all four gates. It actually seems like a good idea. He would then find out that not only are Americans stupid but so are the French, South Korean, German, and so on. I'm all for continuing that mans education.

You think they have only cloned 4 Werners?

There are precisely 47 clones of Werner at last count.

Remember that shutdown in the late 90's? We drove around the road closed sign in RMNP to go ice climbing. The only park employee working that day was the LEO that gave us a ticket.

Why, if the mandate doesn't start till 2015?
Any idea?
We offer medical/dental/vision to part timers. Probably cheaper.

There's only one guy threatening a shut down.
Why? Because he refuses to let the country get ass fooked by your extortionist teabagger buddies?
And next month it looks like they they want to risk the full faith and credit of the U.S because extremists like you who are, btw, a minority, cant get their way, possibly sending the country back into a recession.
Fukk you. You and your fellow dipshits are not interested in governing, but creating crises so you can implement your failed and rejected agenda.
Buncha Ayn Rand tit-suckers!
You guys are out to munch but you're holding the country hostage.
Worked well for righties in 94, didn't it, dumb fukk?
THIS is WHY you LOST.

So, nothing to do w/ACA, just like that list Unhung provided. Got it.
No, they are doing it because of the ACA. Why we are doing it now is what I was speculating about. In fact, we restructured our staffing so we only have a minimum of full timers. Basically, there are positions that you cannot have someone full time that previously you could.

I hear the NPS is in a panic because they had developed a Werner Drone that used 22 caliber ammo. But now there is a shortage.

Why would they do it this far in advance of the mandate, when the mandate itself has already been pushed back a year?
You say "they are doing it because of the ACA". Anything verifiable you can point to as a reason?
My guess (they don't tell us peons everything:) it is probably saving them money in PT benefits. The intense scrutiny of pt workers going over 30 hours is because of the ACA. Remember the ACA only mandates they provide affordable care to FT associates. So it is a large business' interest to limit the full time employees if possible.
Some locations lost 3-5 full timers. It was tough on everyone involved.

part time workers!
now THAT has been going on since the start of the Bush Recession in 2007
we have a huge supply of workers and by far not enough jobs for all of them
this situation makes it a strong "Employer" market, workers are desperate for jobs and are willing to work part time as its better than no job at all
in fact, this trend in reducing workers hours has been going on for years now and shows no sign
of letting up as employers figured out long ago that they can pocket more profit that way
all this has nothing to do with the ACA, obviously, and everything to do with shareholder greed
as the Employer Mandate effects only companies with 50 or more workers, we are not talking about struggling small business owners who just can't buy groceries unless they cut hours
yeah, people will always "game the system" to their own personal financial advantage......
