Steve P:

Here, I did google it, and the original term is "jumping the snark"

http://stevenpoole.net/articles/jumping-the-snark/#more-957

I think it goes back to Lewis Carroll, which is how I happened to know about it, actually.

Thank you, though for your correction. I appreciate it, and I am not sure what trolling is.

I am going to give blind people as much credit as sighted people for the common sense to know when and when not to use something that can kill living things. This ridiculous furor about a silly thing such as blindness and guns misses the entire point and deflects us from considering and respecting each other's fundamental human rights.
Our human rights, for gosh sakes!

I agree blind people should be subjected to a (broader) set of limits on getting the permit, compared to sighted people. However, it seems highly prejudicial ("realistic" in someone's eyes) for us sighted people to talk about taking away their rights without considering their individual circumstances.

I don't expect blind people, and sane sighted people for that matter, to pull out a gun and shoot up a family park or theater. I also don't presume blind people cannot be educated to use a gun judiciously based on their limitations.

I would prefer no one needing to carry a gun, but that is beside the point here.

Sean Yang,
Thank you.
I am with you.
That is why I brought up the ridiculous notion of clubs.

It is really time for humans to get past this need to initiate violence to get our way, and worse yet, hire politicians to help us get our way. We are good humans, by and large, and we can usually figure things out with reason. Club-swinging was a part of the former evolutionary cycle, after all.

Thank you.

Apparently, according to the initiator of this conversation, your I. Q. drops only if you are blind.

Words are a much better weapon that wielded weapons. Cogito armo and all that.

1. Kindly point to where I said that. If anything, I said that a blind person is incapable of determining by ear whether someone is wearing blue and wearing a badge.

2. F*#k you.

Hadn't ever noticed Feralfea around, and a quick search turns up she's Doug Buchanan's better half.

And a troll.

This thread is unreal. A totally blind person driving? A totally blind person with an AK-47? Monty Python, where are you?

Here in Southern Colorado a recall election is underway to remove two democratic senators who voted to restrict assault weapon magazines to 15 rounds each. The gun nuts have taken the stage and are costing the citizens up to half a million dollars because of their snit-fit. These politicians come up for re-election next year, but the nuts could not wait.

And I support the conservative view of the Second Amendment and am proficient with and supportive of handguns for citizens.

I sincerely apologize to anyone here who feels I have overstepped, and I apologize for what appears to be an incorrect assumption: the originator of this thread does not think blind people have a lower I. Q. due to their lack of sight, and that was my own misinterpretation of his words.

Nevertheless, I continue to caution us against giving up reasoning with other humans in a peaceful manner when we have differences of opinion, and resorting to laws which are enforced by the use of force. I think most blind people are sane and peaceful people, and if they feel the need for a weapon, that is too bad, but I think their human right. Maybe they want it to keep in their little home against gang bangers, I have no idea. I would talk to each of them and if I felt they were a danger, I would attempt to help them find an alternative means of protection, such as an armed escort.

I think we need to give up all swinging of all clubs, but until we do, I am most hesitant to deprive any rational human of any of their rights, no matter their challenges.

I am not advocating anyone having firearms: I am advocating finding alternatives to using force to get our way, especially the delegated use of force through government.

And I am not being political, I am being peaceful. I don't care what party they are, I just want us to find alternatives to armed people all over the place.

But I also do not want us to begin to deprive other people of their human rights, for while we all may choose to give up our own human rights, or at least ignore them, we cannot do so at the expense of another good human who may want to be armed for reasons I do not comprehend, and is willing to get a permit rather than carry a stolen weapon.

And thank you, I have learned a new usage and a new term. I have no television, so I miss a lot of the current culture while exploring ancient ones, some of them very educational. I am working on a site in Wyoming at present.

If I came off as a troll, I apologize. I had to look up the term. I seldom visit here, or anywhere, and so I apologize for not observing the terms of protocol on this forum.

And as for being Doug Buchanan's better half, he may well have been mine, actually. And no thank you on the proposition of a sexual encounter.

I am sure we both have far better things to do with our time. I take your anger as more frustration because I failed to understand your words. I apologize.

Thank you for that. And sorry for telling you to f*#k off. I was angry and insulted at the thought my words could be twisted like that. Water under the bridge, if it's ok with you. :)

FWIW, I'd personally prefer *no one* be armed in public, because in a polite society it's not needed. Seems to me pepper spray and stun guns level the playing field enough for the general populace, so no need to take that extra step to firearms and put folks downrange in danger.

Adatesman. Water Bridge, cool.

You later guys are just too funny.

See you when I get back (again) from scrambling boulders in the Winds, carefully recording some really cool images that I hope to have permission to share.

There are occasionally very cool cannon shoots in Alaska, rather magnificent to observe. And I went to one here in Montana, where they were shooting bowling balls very long distances. Very loud hobby. I, for myself, prefer peace and quiet to loudness of any nature.

I refuse the red herring of "for the sake of the children."

It appears our great president and his minion Susan Rice likes to use our children to justify bombing another country. Screw guns...we need military grade weapons lol!!!

"If we begin to erode the moral outrage of gassing children in their bed, we open ourselves up to even more fearsome consequences," Rice said, while speaking at the D.C.-based think tank the New America Foundation.

Rice, speaking as an adviser but also as "a parent, a mother," referenced images of Syrian parents wrapping the bodies of their dead children in white shrouds as if they were tucking them into bed for the last time.

If you're into loud and dangerous, Feralfea, another fun one is shooting anvils. Basically bury one anvil in the ground, fill the depression in the base with black powder and a fuse, gently place another (smaller) anvil on top, light the fuse and run far, far away. Never done it personally, as I wouldn't 't subject my g-g-(g?)-grandfather's anvil to such nonsense (a late 1700's Fisher) but know people who have.

Blind flame throwers have always been legal. Thankfully this dude used a spotter. If not that guy stage left might be at the burn ward as we speak.
