I'd love to climb Summit Rock tomorrow , 10/27 , if anyone is looking for a partner ... Hit me up here or call me at 714 473 1390. I live in Redwood City .

If the permit system is down , how is a permit secured to climb summit ? It sounds like that other crew was just lucky enough to run into the ranger ....

Thanks for all your hard work Bruce , Summit is a great crag.

Believe the reservation system is now up. Call:

408-355-2201

The story above was on October 4th. According to the Access Fund, the system is now up and working this weekend, like tomorrow, Sunday October 27th.

I may try to get up there next weekend.

Oh, and just so y'all know, Bruce, Paul Minault and a couple of biologists did wonders to make this whole thing happen. That whole gate-at-the-entrance thing was my idea too, do I get any credit? Don't need it.

This may seem like a lame system to have in place but it opens the rock to climbers, and shuts it off at night to partiers who chuck emptys off the top off the rock. (I like to party, not out there, just pack yer sh#t out!) That's also when most graffiti goes up.

It's a start. Thanks Bruce, Paul, and everybody who gave a sh#t and actually did something.

I guess you cannot reserve a Summit Rock permit the day before ??? I tried calling on Saturday morning to get a permit to climb on Sunday , big surprise Santa Clara parks phone system only manned open Mon-Fri.

I then tired to reserve a permit at gooutsideandplay.org , but I could not choose the next day to reserve a summit rock permit . The soonest I could reserve anything on that website was 3 days in advance .

Oh well , lesson learned , I guess we'll call earlier during the week to get a weekend permit for Summit...

Thanks for that info.

Any update on this year's closure dates?
The non-breeding season has been defined as Oct 1-Jan 15, with adjustments based on observed breeding behaviors.

I saw a pair of Peregrines here, about 2 mi south of Summit Rock a couple of weeks ago.

Bummer , I guess I was misinformed about Summit Rock climbing . You can only obtain a permit to climb there during non nesting season which is designated as Oct. 1 to Jan. 1 ... So no vlimbing at Summit until Oct. it looks like ...

Just found this video on YouTube of people climbing on Summit Rock after it reopened:

Looks like a kinda mass assault, last November 2013. So it's an actual fact.
