Of course things are changing a bit. Chris Archer has told me
the Layton memorial, specifically, will be in Golden, at the AAC
center, Sunday evening, including a dinner and talks by
several of us. And Larry Dalke has stated he can't make
the event. I'm not sure if that's just the Sunday part or the
entire Diamond festival as well....

No problem, but just curious. What do the Titan and Standing Rock
have to do with the Diamond? Or is this about Layton, for the
Layton memorial part? Maybe that's it...?
Will there be a separate Layton memorial during the Diamond
festival, apart from the Golden thing? Just wondering.

Pat- As this event is both a historical gathering and a Kor memorial as it turns out, I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to have these three guys talk about those two routes. Strike while the iron is hot...
Komito was going to touch on Standing Rock in his remarks anyway so it made sense.
Were I to select one route to epitomize Layton's primal genius and love of place it would be Standing Rock.
Larry is still on the roster for Saturday evening at Neptune Mountaineering.

I have a film crew lined up to capture this unique historical examination so those people missing the event and anyone interested in the future will be able access the content.
There has been some confusion about the memorial aspect of the Diamond Reflections gathering at Neptune Mountaineering that I need to clear up right now. As we will be examining a set period of important climbing history on the east face of Longs Peak (1959 - 1967) during two evenings of first person presentations, the Diamond Reflections event will be a Layton Kor memorial because of his dominant role in that period of route development. Simply put, Layton was involved in the majority of the significant early routes that we will be examining.
I have gone to considerable trouble and expense to bring many of the speakers to Boulder to participate as well as the extended Kor family so that they can spend time together and appreciate Layton's climbing accomplishments and feel the love and respect that we, as climbers, have for his amazing essence and spirit.
I have to charge $40 admission to make this all happen as I have planned it so as to yield the best result possible for the community and for the Kor family. I need the financial support of the community to help me do this.
This event has changed a lot from my original plans because unfortunately Layton passed away and we can't share his perspective and humor directly. Layton Kor exists in memory now and friends and climbing partners are being called together for two evenings to share and capture his legacy and their own in the presence of those folks that are interested in learning about these estimable climbers and their history.
The Sunday Layton Kor memorial benefit generously hosted by the American Alpine Club at their Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado is more general in nature and will involve speakers from all aspects of Layton's climbing life not just the time period under examination at the event at Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder. The AAC event allows climbers and other interested folks to come and enjoy a different and broader perspective on the life and climbs of Layton Kor. Some of the speakers from the Diamond Reflections event will be present to speak but many cannot do so.
Additionally, through their fund raising dinner and auction, the Club is helping support the Kor family in a way that is not possible at the Diamond Reflections event as I have it structured. Any profits from the Diamond Reflections event will go directly to Karen Kor but I am focused on making sure that the Kor clan is present to feel the love and high esteem in which we hold Layton Kor to help them cope with his absence and appreciate his greatness and accomplishments as a climber moving forward.
I hope that this clarifies the two events sufficiently and I encourage everyone to come to both gatherings and support both my ongoing historical work and the Kor family at this difficult time.

can you tell us when the event starts, what time exactly and day?
I haven't for some reason seen when. I thought it was Friday and
Saturday. At 7 or 8? Or is it earlier in the afternoon?

Pat- I have updated the OP on this thread to let you know that information so please take a look at it again. You are the last speaker on Friday night to allow you as much time as you like to discuss the FA of the Grand Traverse route on the Diamond and reminisce.
Neptune Mountaineering will be open ahead of the event which is supposed to start at 7 pm. The pace will be relaxed with plenty of time between presentations to socialize and grab a beer next door if you like. This is a great opportunity to meet these amazing climbers and ask them a question or two so don't be shy and introduce yourselves.
Rock and Ice has generously provided badge holders that we will be reusing for future events so that people can come and go once they have checked in.
You can get your badge holders on Friday afternoon to avoid the delay if you are arriving close to 7 pm.
