Climbing, beer and coffee! Is that all you people think about?

Squirrel is one of the GREAT people here on earth and plus I guarantee he will do a fantastic job with that store! He is super competent, has a great spirit, and is bound to have some Grateful Dead tunes in the background! Maybe some fine beta here or there? Actually I guarantee that as well!

There is an 1862 full-page drawing of a road , cabins, and Lover's Leap on page 502 of the first edition of Sir Richard Francis Burton's book "The City of the Saints and across the Rocky Mountains to California " .The inscription is "In the Sierra Nevada" . You can see it online at Google Books by using the advanced search feature. It is the oldest Hwy.50 illustration I've seen.

The meyers Meeks has sds plus bits. Don't need to spend thirty bucks for a bit.

Thats what Jay said, but it was Sunday and apparently they're closed on Sunday. Hopefully the Strawberry Market will now have some in stock. Not for no 30 bucks though. Never seen an SDS for that much, 10 bucks maybe.

Finally got a chance to check out the store yesterday after skiing and it looks great!

There's a new, improved beer section too but I forgot to take pictures.

He is super competent, has a great spirit, and is bound to have some Grateful Dead tunes in the background!

Ha! Now that you mention in, I'm pretty sure that was Box of Rain playing in the background when we were there...

U.S. Route 50 is a major east–west route of the U.S. Highway system, stretching just over 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from Ocean City, Maryland on the Atlantic Ocean to West Sacramento, California.
I doubt there's anything worth climbing east of Meyers : p

Went to the Strawberry Market for the first time today. Best coffee, nicest people. Sometimes it is hard to believe those two things are so scarce these days. What a relief! Thank you!

Looks like an early season for the Leap. Tahoe snowpack is suffering.

Drove by the leap last weekend. If the current weather trend holds out, the leap will be high and dry in about three weeks.

Sorry, no pictures :(

The only previous gear shop was the thieves looting cars in the CG at night.

Sure glad we weren't a part of that "co-op" gear store!!

For sure will stop in next time I'm in the area...

When do the falcon closures usually go in to effect? I'd like to do the The Hourglass again soon but this zone is usually closed, right? Anyone done Hourglass Wall?

Yours truly with SPF 50,

Closures start April 1st. Most routes are dry and climbable. The descent is covered still with snow. I haven't climbed hourglass wall but the bolts have been replaced

Strawberry Station (new name for the Strawberry Market) just ordered more SuperTopo guides. I was just on the phone with Squirrel and he said they are getting more camping and climbing supplies in every week. So stop on by next time you are at the Leap.

Anyone know if they have a facebook page or web site?
