From personal experience they have legs and hold their value well, even if just for spares (UK at least). would have loved to have got hold of one of the 'wolf' defender 110 variants the mod sold off in the UK. instead i have an isuzu rodeo which drives like a landy with half the capability

Cosmic,
Gets horrible MPG, 10-12 no matter what kind of driving I am doing. It is set up great for road trips and is a great base camp vehicle.

Cool thread bump. I never went there but my late father told me some stories of going there. It was kinda strange coming from a suburban engineer type that never got out much.

This area is just to the north of the Saline Valley. Great summer climbing.

Dapper Dan do you still have the Toyota truck? Great pictures enjoyed looking at them.
Years ago went out to the Saline Valley with my kids, I had no clue it was a clothing optional area. Got there and when I saw all these grotty looking people bare a** naked got the heck our of there, didn't feel like it was appropriate for my kids.

I've been going there with my kids since they were little, but I'm kinda "grotty" looking myself. My oldest son still remembers his first long trip to DV at age 5 as one of the best trips ever. I was way more disturbed taking them to Disney Land!

That is the Crooked Creek/Cottonwood Creek area. With the abundance of rock in the Sierras this place sees little traffic but if you have a free weekend and a 4x4 it is worth exploring.

TFPU! Looks very enjoyable and inviting. The roads look too rough for my F150 with pop-up camper, though.

I still have the white truck , 238,000 miles , still running strong . It's about time for an upgrade , I was offered 4K for it on Craigslist , not bad for a 19 year old rig !

The road is a 50 mile horror show. Sane poeople would never visit here, only riff raff are allowed in. Keep your vehicle safe, don't go. Unless of course, if you are bringing the gourmet food and wine and I am meeting you there.

Anybody visited the Saline Valley this season ? I will be going out there next week .
I have reached the Saline through Death Valley / Lipincott Rd. but never from the north . Any thoughts on snow over the approaches from the North , or through the Eureka Valley Sand Dune area ?

We hiked up Little Hunter Canyon on the trail that leads to Bighorn Mine. We crossed into Craig Canyon near the pass on the Bighorn Mine Trail. We then descended the narrows of Craig. It is full value fun canyoneering with sections of limestone slot canyons and a good amount of cold water. A pretty fit party will have no trouble doing this loop in a day. something like 8 or 9 rappels and lots of mandatory cold swimming.
The trail to Bighorn Mine is beautiful all on its own as well.
Saline Valley is cool.

I went into the Saline over spring break . Steele Pass and North Pass were in good shape and snow free. The tubs were busy with the usual assortment of alternative people out there. Also lots of straights , family types , reunions , drifters , moto heads , crunchies , and working types like me ...
