^^^^EXACTLY!
My Max was smart enough to protest mightily if it got anywhere near Class 3. Shoulda seen him at the Fisher Towers ladder, OMG, you'd a thought someone was trying to kill him, not boost him up a 4 foot ladder. Made me do a sketchy walk around on ledges HE found.
Most dogs however just blindly do what the human is doing.
Booties are kinda mandatory for larger dogs in the mountains.

Who the heck BRINGS a dog on a 13,000 ft. mountain? The dog was obviously not up to the task but unable to communicate this to his owner. Far too many dog owners take dogs on excursions they want to do with no regard to the needs or abilities of their four legged "friends."

I don't even want to read it for my own soul. These kind of stories make me want to kill people. I am glad the good guys won this one.

That the dog owner did not outfit Missy with dog booties
for scrambling on sharp Colorado granite is just the 1st of his crimes.

In a just universe a magistrate would sentence the guy to walk the route again barefoot.

More Colorado mtn dogs w/ bleeding feet and clueless owner stories.

and then saw this! How strong would you have to be to pull a resistant
team onto rotten ice?

13k isn't exactly 'death zone".

Confirmed for italian.

Keep in mind that lots of other cultures have less of a "family" and more of a "property" view towards pets and animals

That being said, the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Little Prince are rather relevant.

"Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose . . . "

The d00d is pathetic, and should be charged with animal abandonment & cruelty and shouldn't be allowed to own another dog or pet period, let alone be given back this dog!

I have owned several German Shepherds over the years and my sister owns one now and I know how loyal and obedient and loving they are. They are also very smart.

In Nam, the dog they used as scouts and sentry's were GS. They saved numerous lives by detecting trip wires, land minds & hootches, detecting enemy infiltration, alerting on snipers & ambushes, finding enemy underground tunnels and base camps, weapons & food caches, etc.,! In other words, they were invaluable! It really pissed me off when they decided to either euthanize or abandon 3-4 thousand of them there (rather then ship them back to the US) when they lost Saigon and evacuated VN. Everyone new that the dogs were on the sh#t list of the VC and when they found them they were most likely tortured before they were killed! Pathetic!!

edit: btw, they were considered as partners not pets!!

When I was in my twenties, I had an old dog that use to follow me everywhere. I had been gone from home for over a year and had not taken into the account that my dog had gone over the hill. We went hiking and the predictable thing happened. She followed me tail wagging until she literally collapsed. I then abandoned my pack, got her 70 pounds over my shoulders and I hiked her out. Took about five hours longer but it was worth it. I really loved that dog. I sure as heck won't leave her out there for days. I would find someone to help if I couldn't do it myself.

I posted his phone and address here, and removed it. Not trying to upset the universe.

My Magnum PI effort amounted to 10 seconds on google for what its worth.

Never met this guy, hope not too.

Take that down Brent. The disapproval and the loss of respect from the community is a powerful thing. Plus what comes around goes around. No one can escape from their own b.s. and... Kindness is always returned, though not always from where you expect it.

I finally understood this and it's why I'm such a content soul.

If all you folks would care as much for people and be as kind to people as you are to dogs the world would be a much better place.....

love your human as much as you love your dog. that would be a good place to start.

I would not take a dog hiking off trail thru the boulder fields of any 14er after first softening her paws up in the Scott Gomer creek willow bogs north of Mt Bierstadt.
