Was it named for a Polish hero of the American Revolutionary War?

Canadian Arctic?
Baffin/Ellesmere Island?
I'd have gone for Antarctica as well. I'm thinking not the islands in the Southern Ocean as I think most of those peaks are in clusters, not solitary.

Ah ha!
Found it. Anders is right, it is a notable peak, as it is definitely on the list of County Highpoints.
The approach sounds difficult.

Is that "county" or country high points?

Kosciuszko.
Nope. Though it's of similar elevation. It's also the highest peak in its region of the Earth.

County, province, state, ... not country, I suppose, unless you take an different/native view of whether the place should be its own country.
Here it is being sledded (photo from internets, not mine)

Well that finally helped, that is pretty remote!
I guess another clue would be - consider the source - of the OP.

Well, it would have been very appropriate as the secret training ground for Ron's Sleds team. Not in Doninistan, but some Sherpa-like peeps might have been around to help.
Its height is normally expressed in metres.

I don't know about the peak in the OP...
But in this puzzle, isn't that Devil's Tower in the foreground?

It has to be none other than Galdopiggen in Norway.

Well, it isn't Galdhøpiggen, but there are certainly similarities. Similar height and highness (in context), similar hemisphere, similarly glaciated, both technically moderate.
But somewhat dissimilar in that Galdhøpiggen has a hut on its top, and the mystery peak doesn't. Plus has had a lot more ascents. Here's a photo of Norway's highest peak.

I got it too, what tipped the scale for me was saying "maybe it should be it's own country". Nun of the other clues were getting me there:-)

The images were borrowed from the internet, and AFAIK not reversed or anything.
As someone noted upthread, the first ascent of the peak was only in 1967 (Canada's centennial year), so it might be considered the last of the 8,000ers to have been climbed. OK, so it's 8,000 feet, not metres.
