Your body language in the photo says a lot, you're not gushing over the scenery like the older ladies in back of you. I couldn't help but laugh, there is something really funny about the photo, after reading your candid remarks.

Having known the Mendenhall family since the 60s, when I saw this Summit article I could not resist adding what I was reading rather than what was published. This validates Valerie's comments from above.
John seemed to always be in a red shirt. Ruth was the editor of the local Rock Climbing section newsletter of the Sierra Club - The Mugeloos.
