Jefe,

Sweeet! Was thinking the closure was later and the MTN was on my soon ticklist. I guess knot. Is it true that you can climb much of the mountain during the closure but just knot some specific areas? Like to catch up width U somewhere in this great state. Tim

My folks live in Prescott Valley and I have visited a number of times. However every time I'm there a closure is in effect. Both at Thumb Butte and Granite Mtn. Why are the closures so long? I have friends that went to Prescott College and spray constantly about Granite Mountain, calling it the best crag in America. Looks good, but is it that good? More photo evidence please.

The descent off the slabs takes you past this incredible

Remember how rad that felt y'all???!!!

So, I took a 17-year-old friend on his first multi-pitch last weekend at another all-time favorite spot, Wamello Dome. Yeah, that grin... But that's a different story.

It brings up another serious question though: Zev is starting to look at colleges and thinking liberal arts with maybe outdoor rec, so I mentioned Prescott the school. Now I'm wondering, any opinions about that on this Taco?

Seth, entire place shut down on Feb 1st for Peregrine Falcon nesting.
Ridiculous to shut the whole thing down, but that's what they do.
Reopens in mid July.

"Getting after it"
I dunno, maybe in that we blazed up there with a questional forecast.
Mostly the mission was to show the apprentice what I consider to be the heart and soul of climbing. An honest approach. Not one piece of permanent metal on that route. Amazing views and perfect rock.
He soaked it in for sure.

Since i was there three years ago and had done the *exact* same route, i was hoping to "get after it" on the main wall, for the full "aura". With the weather and lack of experience, though , the slabs were the right call. It was all shˇts and giggles, and I absolutely love that route .
It's called Debut, by the way.
Fitting.

Here's a few more shots of the descent.

Even the "lesser" side is sweet.

The chihuahua happy to see us and amping to play plinko all the way down the climber's trail.
She crushes.

You were there. Be here now.

The next morning

Until we meet again...

The kid is a great partner-safe, smart, game.
He can't wait to go back. By the time the closure is lifted he'll be ready for a route on the main wall.

Glad y'all enjoyed our trip to the Mountain, a very special place.
