From the window of the Montfort Hut in Switzerland during a Haute Rte. . . The flash is a reflection of the first flake of about 2 feet of snow that fell that night. We spent the evening with the hut to ourselves since the lift was closed, sampling bottles from the wine list and conducting beacon practice by hiding them in empty rooms.

So very sad. A tragic loss. Deepest sympathies to Pam and the families. No good words right now, just a few pics of a man to be long remembered... RIP Jackster.

If you're making a toast to our friend, his recent favorite was Don Julio 70th Anniversary. He knew his tequilas and his pens. Did a little climbing too. But most of all, he loved Pam.

Ugh. Super sorry to see this news... condolences to Pam... haven't seen her in 15 years, but I always thought she was delightful. Had some fine climbing days on rock and ice with Jack back in the mid-90s. He will be missed.

Never met Jack but it was obvious what a good guy he was. The real deal as a climber and guide. He shared a lot on the ST. He will be missed.

Terrible news. As a semi-newbie 23 y/o climber in Telluride, the Ice Park was just really getting going. Jack was a frequent visitor and ALWAYS, without fail, extended a warm smile, and handshake, beta, and an overall positive vibe. He will be missed.

Such a great guy. I met him once. He took an hour out of his day to give me, a total stranger, all the beta I needed to have an awesome first climbing trip to Chamonix. He won't be forgotten.
