My daughters and my last climb on a 93 road trip to Idaho, Devils Tower and the Needles.
The weather was perfect the whole trip, not always the case when dealing with school schedules.
The approach to the beginning of the climb was is steep and high enough I roped the girls up for the approach.
We got to the base of the climb where most rope up. We found two parties getting ready sort of mostly they were shooting the sh#t.
One A-hole said under his breath but plenty loud enough for my daughter to hear, oh sh#t girls!
Well if he was trying to intimidate us it did the opposite. As we were roped up climbing shoes on I said well girls lets show these potato farmers how Cali girls climb and off we went.
When I climbed with my daughters together I used dbl 8s so they can climb at the same time and with an ACT or device that takes two ropes I can belay them at the same time climbing at different speeds.
We quickly put two pitches between us before the other guys started climbing.
I had done the climb twice before, once in 83 and the day before had I soloed the climb to re-familiarize myself with the climb and to gauge how long it would take us.
It would be a step up from the usual 1-3 pitch climbs we did.
We added another pitch between us and they never got any closer. We were well down the decent when the thunder boomers rolled in stranding one party till the rock dried enough to climb.
It was one of those days and climbs we will always remember with a smile.
For me it is right up there with the 8 to 10’ waterfall we ran in kayaks a few years later.

Best shot, best photo? Never happen. I've got 1,000's of climbing pictures and each one is emblemmatic of a certain day, a certain climb, a certain group of friends, a special time. Photos are not simple images; they are time machines that transport us back in space and mind and spirit and soul to a place where the world was right, the universe was in order, we knew we were loved, and just drawing a breath with your face turned to the dawning sun was an act of gratitude and worship and joy and self-forgiveness.
Here's one that brings back so many memories of a great day of bouldering. Lunch break in Cap Rock parking lot during an epic 6 hour sesh. Tarbuster photo. Name the usual suspcts! Jtree Masters Reunion, Spring 2007. Wasn't that just, like, last week?

JL: Those are hard pictures. Lighting, focus, depth of field. Now, is the perspective any different? A 20 something year old vs. someone a little more aged/experienced? Ain't hatin' just investigatin'

Bvb, nicely said. Your photo captures that spirit. Still, proud shots by all the posters. My husband won't let me post my favorite shots. O well.
Tork, where and what route?
