Ghost, yes, I did choose that avatar for a reason. Lately, my grown children have taken to calling me "The Most Interesting Man in in the World", which I proudly wear as a badge of honour. One story:
I worked for a year on a tunneling project on the island of Borneo, where I commuted to work each day in a dugout canoe (motorised, albeit). Before the tunneling could actually begin, I spent two days with the local village shaman searching for the perfect goat to sacrifice at the tunneling site. The workers would not begin the project until the blood of the goat had been spilled at the exact spot where the excavation would start. The goat was eventually identified & purchased, and I was given the "honour" of pinning down the goat while the shaman sliced its throat. We had a fine goat feast afterward. Just another day at the office.

I am learning that when a whole lot of hoooey is
being spewed, like some ridiculous pseudo-intellectual
thread that goes on and on, rather than jump in
I just don't go there at all.
I think it's ok to question certain statements in a friendly
way, without negating a person or insulting them. Some people,
though, are easily insulted. I made what I thought to be a
rather harmless comment about how happy I was to see such
a nice poem, in view of so much mediocre poetry that
floats about... Someone thought I was talking about them, I guess,
and laid into me.... Hard to avoid some
people who have a hair trigger.
There are people also who find it irresistible to
bring in comments that cause a beautiful thread to deteriorate to
potty talk, or about farting, or worse, and who are masterful at ruining
threads of people they don't like... I guess it's just
the nature of the beast, though. No solution of which I am aware,
other than the improvement of the human being... which
we can hope happens for some...
This is in large part a California forum, and while I disagree
with some things that people say historically or otherwise,
I often keep it to myself or have to tone my words
or be named as an intruder... I wish we could all
become a little more open and generous, for example like
Higgins... who
welcomes other voices almost as well as we all welcome his...

Reilly -- your high-altitude goat looks much more appealing than the jungle/swamp goat we had. Good eatin' for sure!

I'll tell ya.
Everywhere I go people spend so much time talking about nothing,
Just on and on and on endlessly, blah blah blah about nothing.
The whole world is one big endless drool about nothing.
What a stupid world we've made .....

When I cross that line, it is to be funny mostly.
Yes there are those that need to feel superior, are mad at someone/something. So far I haven't needed to that as of yet.

It is easy to become snooty in the relative anonymity of cyberspace.
We tend to take the things people say personally, when we should really be removing our egos from the moment.
Opinions make the world go around.
