It's the t-bums bday that weekend as well. Can't pass it up.
I'll be the lost little girl with the "who the hell are all these old people" look on her face.

Actually, Nita, I am going to shave. I just want to get a little more mileage out of this ridiculous beard for a few more days. My two year old niece who I hadn't seen in 5 months laughs, runs up, and yards on it every time I see her now.
That kid picture is great, btw!

Just got our confirmation in.
We will be at site #306 in Crane Flat. Look forward to seeing you all at the Facelift!
We should be in about noon on Thursday, and will probably have to leave Sunday mid day, but my girl is trying to get Monday off so that we can stay over another night.

I'm going to be there this year doing a demo for Totem Cams. It's a try before you buy demo.http://www.totemcams.com/blog/?id=1617
I'm not selling. You will have to get them at the Yosemite Mountain Shop or online. We are donating two cams to the raffle at the end of the work day. Free gear is always good.
Here is a pic of me in my natural element:
I have a plaid hat but I don't wear plaid pants because if I did I would have to kick my own ass (as per Adam Sandler: Happy Gilmore). I do wear a kilt from time to time though. And don't call it a skirt or I will have to kilt you.

In bygone times the Scottish itinerant carried a piece of wool a little less than three feet wide by nine or ten feet long. It was a blanket at night and in the morning you would wrap a turn or two around the waist (the kilt) and throw the end over one shoulder. The part thrown over the shoulder is called "the plaid". The various patterns dyed into the wool to identify one's clan is called the "tartan". (The pleated kilt came into being only when Queen Victoria caused that garb to become high fashion.)
This is a minor point singular only in that it is never got right.

Jeff:
I trust you did not find me. I was not there.
Were the LA SCOTS there? Simon Fraser, surely. How many grade 1 bands?

This last is the Field Marshall Montgomery PB medley for 2011. The last tune, a reel, The Train Journey North is a barn burner.
General background:
Beginning in the late 70's bands began using chanter reeds really hard to blow. Ever since pipers have been blowing their guts out. Bands are now running nearly 20 pipers. Huge. Absolutely huge. Grade 1 bands typically have three or four feeder bands with only the best, solo prize winners, getting to play and the band may have players traveling from all over the world in order to play with them. All snare drummers are nuts. Back in the 50's a player with the Edinburgh Police was also a rock and roll drummer. He redefined the art. Those drums put out 120db. Enough to drive anyone batty. When those heads lets go it sounds like a grenade going off.

Jeff:
Should not be necessary. I have been able to locate most of the sets on youtube. AlCal was very nice. I also located Inverary District in the worlds now under Stuart Liddell. Liddell was a very good piobaireached player BITD. His band's playing is very crisp and clean. Besting Field Marshall Montgomery is immensely difficult but I did like ID's playing.
Here is a solo by Jack Lee Pipe Sergeant in Simon Fraser PB.

I listened to that Jack Lee YouTube video. I started crying. It must be in the blood. I have three Highland Clans I can claim the tartan of. Keith, MacDonald, and McCoy (sept of Clan MacKay). I have loved three red headed women and none of them were good to me. Redheads still turn my head though. And there is nothing like listening to a good piper. Here is me in my gear kilt.

Once or twice I've suggested to jstan that it would be a nice touch if he were to perform on his bagpipes during the FaceLift - maybe at the dinner on the last evening. I gather that there are considerable logistical hurdles, and also that the pipes would need 'tuning'. They're apparently quite finicky in terms of temperature, humidity and so on.

Yosemite and bagpipes. There is a heaven. I would love to hear it. Everybody better hope that I don't learn to play cause I'd be on some ledge halfway up El Cap blowing to beat the band.
I do have a doumbek drum that I was thinking of bringing this trip.
