If you think a film about 13 days on El Cap will "go big," I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to show you.

Just to clear a few things up.

Kait is Ammon's partner on many climbs and was his partner for WOS, no statement was made or implied that she is the best aid climber in the world. But.....she is one of only 4 people to have done WOS.

I too believe this has a wider audience than climbers, This is a story of drama, conflict, controversy and overcoming obstacles. These characteristics are that of drama not just climbing. This is a movie about people, not a rock.

Ammon, Kait, and I have partnered up to make this film, no one is "spraying" anything that is not coming from us as a team.

Jeff,

In my not so humble opinion, the movie shouldn't be primarily about drama. We have enough of that as it is. It should be about tying up the history of the route in light of ethical approaches then and now, leveraging interviews, facts about the condition of the route. It is a route about philosophical approaches in more ways than one.

It's your guys' film to make, but I think the drama is for Hollywood, not for climbers. I won't be supporting the film as marketed, but I support Ammon and Kait for setting out to get to the heart of the matter. Consequently, if you want a dramawood film, I'd recommend getting backing from there.

Can I see the NPS permit for this commercial venture?

Tom Evans can tell you about the NPS permits required for taking pictures for money in the park and actually selling in the park too.

The book was huge and now the movie.

Munge,
You are absolutely right and I agree, When I say drama, it is the generic meaning of a compelling story. We are definitely not making a "Hollywood" style docudrama. As a climber myself (though of no repute) I have the same interests in the facts, feuds and controversy surrounding this climb. We want to make a film that will answer the questions climbers have as well and hold the interest of non-climbers. This is a big goal, but one worth striving for. I appreciate your comments ultimately you all our are core audience and I would be a fool not to listen to your opinions.

"the hardest route on El Capitan." Not "a hard route." Not "one of the hardest routes. "THE HARDEST ROUTE."

I see that the wording the web site was quietly changed. It now says, "It is also one of the hardest routes on El Capitan."

Pledged my support. Can't wait.

I want the history of the people and they climb. I'd love interviews with people who were against the climb BITD and what they think now, good or bad. Conflict is what makes things interesting and engaging, just look at the wos threads.

I don't think you would get a huge response for this film. It's a limited demographic of people who will seek it out. But I think it's a great story to tell, and people who are exposed from festivals, tours, etc. may be turned onto it and get into it.

I don't think you need a film permit to just use footage that was shot up there during the climb. You only need a permit if you are in a NP shooting stuff for a commercial project. So don't shoot interviews in the valley without a permit, but existing climbing footage should be no problem.

As a passion project is should be very fulfilling and interesting, but don't expect to make any money from it. :-)

If the film just focuses on how many enhancements there were it wouldn't appeal to non-climbers. But if you look at the bigger picture, this is one of the biggest soap operas in Valley history. This story has everything.

The young turk "newcomers" vs. the "establishment." Midnight raids on their base camp. Physical violence (throwing debris down on them). Then a 30 year blood feud with clashing egos. Finally the second ascent that answers all the questions--or does it?

If this story can't be turned into something that non-climbers are interested in, I don't know what can.

No it isn't. It's a stupid Supertopo soap opera. Nobody in Valley has really given a sh'it for 30 years.

And you granite tool are one of the biggest suckers to crawl into its stupid hole.

You are a fully operating soap opera and certified drama queen yourself .......

Who's going to play Werner in the film?

Straight out of Hollywood!

Carefree antics on the edge.

The party scene - with beer and unnamed herbs/chemicals. (More females will need to be added to the movie version.)

Of course not, why should anyone even talk to an obnoxious anonymous pimply faced snot nosed 14 year old adolescent posting to the internet from his moms basement like yourself:-)?

Might I re-recommend my proposed name for the film? "Wings of Steel, the sh#t never ends". LOL! Congrats to Ammon and Kaite.

Werner is wearing a Yosemite-style yarmulke, of course. With propeller and everything.
