Always fun out at Blue Mesa Reservoir near Gunnison. This youtube shows some guys going off of the "big one". One time when I did this, with the water level it was probably over 80 ft. I was wearing tennis shoes but was "windmilling" as I went in...smacked the under part of both arms really hard. I had very painful bruises for weeks.

@ Gal "The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek" is the complete name of that wonderful swimming hole. I used to camp up there a lot. Back flips off the diving board, scorpions all over the ground at night. Great spot.

I love those swimming holes Tork. Bit of a hike though.

Nick, its easy to post photos if the pics are on your computer. When you go to post a reply, there is a button above the reply box that says photo. Just click that and follow the directions. It will help you select a photo from your computer.

I don't remember exactly how to post photos from a web based site like photobucket, but it basically involves posting the link they provide.

Another vote for Boiling River in Yellowstone NP. A huge warm pool. Great late in the fall with no one else there.

45th Parallel Bridge and Boiling River

A sign north of where the road crosses the Gardner River marks the 45th parallel of latitude. The 45th parallel is an imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the equator and the North Pole. This same line passes through Minneapolis-St. Paul, Ottawa, Bordeaux, Venice, Belgrade, and the northern tip of the Japanese islands. It is, here in Yellowstone, roughly aligned with the Montana-Wyoming border.

A little distance south of the sign, a parking area on the east side of the road is used by bathers in the "Boiling River." Bathers must walk upstream about a half mile from the parking area to the place where the footpath reaches the river. This spot is also marked by large clouds of steam, especially in cold weather. Here, a large hot spring, known as Boiling River, enters the Gardner River. The hot and the cold water mix in pools along the river's edge.

With storm approaching, we spent an evening in the boiling river, snow covering the banks. When the thunder was within seconds away, between flash and kaboom, we retreated. What a cool place that is.
