JB-I sent you a knicker link via email.

I actually made Croft a pair of knickers back in the mid nineties. They were really pretty bitchen. Stretch twill… wait I said too much

We should go golfing - you can wear the edging boots (they enable you to swing a longer club for more head speed and distance). got the pants on sale...

Come on, Grammici -

Start under a new label and put out some good product for us, man! The newest 'mici's suck, and though Prana is decent, every poser on the planet wears them to try and look core...
I'd buy a pair, for sure!

Lake Tahoe's right! The "new" micci's aren't even micci's anymore. Prana (oops, I mean Claiborne) stuff is too tight as well. Maybe you should team up with that crazy free solo old what's-his-name guy. You could make some decent pants again - like this guy has!

He's mentally preparing for a hard core bouldering session at Liz Claiborne's new bouldering facility in Whitechester, New York.

Gramicci,

Not that you asked, but I am a customer. And since it sounds like you have something new in the works, my perfect pants would be . . .

I still have a pair of your original black cotton cuffed "Golden Dragon" like pants, size M. Still in very good shape, probably 8/10 on the Antique Roadshow scale. NOT FOR SALE. Love the fit and comfort. No restriction at all.

However, I have to admit, I don't wear them too often but instead wear a lite nylon pant that also has good leg room (no cuffs) that is lined with a white synthetic "cotton like" fabric. They are wind proof, very cool and don't restrict movement. They were made by Land's End, but unfortunately are no longer available. I have several and they came in many colors. They are now looking a little worn-out. I wear them most often since the activities I like to do --- climb, paraglide, and sometimes even Spring Ski in them, I can do all comfortably with just the one type of pants. And they look nice (perhaps not as fashionable as plaid knickers though).

Anyway, the perfect pants for me would be your classic design "Golden Dragon" like pants with cuffs (helps keep the wind out when flying), pockets, etc. made bomb proof, but made with a lite durable nylon wind resistant material exterior with synthetic liner that feels like cotton. Make them available in a lot of colors. I would buy many pairs and be very happy. Combine the best of the Gramicci, with my Land's End pants and it would be perfect.

Also, make them available in different lengths. I have long legs. Not everyone has the same length legs. Though your Gramicci pants fit me in length (that doesn't happen often). My size is 32" waist/34" in-seam and my wife has a hard time finding the right pants for me.

Also, can I have them by next week?

I would change my Login name if it hadn’t been my nickname for at least a good seven years before I started that company. Now its funny not being associated with it for six years and writing about this stuff.

Klimmer, sound’s like you should be a product director. Golden dragon, there is a lot to be said for a thousand year old style. The cuff was the beauty about that pant. It could adjust with what ever your inseam was, to a point of coarse. Good for foot work as well, being able to see your edges.

Did that lands end pant have a gusset? They actually tried to knock off that outdoor look way back but don’t think it was successful though. I would agree nylon is pretty good unless it’s slippery nylon. if so, then forget trying a route like the Green Arch or equivalent.

If I ever put together something of the sorts I’ll run the product test by you, ok? just email me your info an I will put you in the Queue

[SPAM]

Fact of the matter is, anyone can email me if they don’t mind waiting until the summer for something. It would be good seeding prior to the stores getting anything. Size profile and gender would be of good use for sample quantities.

It’s not that I don’t care to ask, its that I am shy. So I will only say it once, anyone is welcome to shoot me a brief on what they like about anything and you designers fire off your resume. Its great to hear from the end user.

[End of SPAM]

Cheers, MG

OK...
the first wild yellow pants I remember were preaccamazzzzzo, Tony Yaneeeeeerro.

I bought thousands of Gramicci's, just sold'em again, except for the gangbanger tagger Gramiccis! yep Mike, you never knew but half the taggers in LA had a pair of gramicci's for a while. My store was ripped off for about 400 pair, along with all "art" of rope and gear. A few months later many of LA's freeway overpasses had been treated by the fashionable taggers. If you thought those boys from Van Nuys looked good, you were right!

jb - those pants are kinda hot.....especially when there's a matching bowtie to go with. I'd kill to see a climber wearing a combo like that on the stone.

Hmmm...note to self, spring is comin'

Flouride - yeah I'm saving up for the whole gig. I was going to get a pimp daddy outfit but you can't climb too well in them.

Largo - We need to make some money man...the outfit goes for $280 or something - and that's without matching socks (a must have).

Yellow? (I think plaid's got more "class") heh heh , jb

Hi:

Regarding Pants:

I often gravitated to the Gramicci pants rack because the colors were nice and the materials were sturdy.

And I always ran away in horror because of the *#&@^! Gathered Waistband.

We ladies starve ourselves for 3/4 of the year, wear double control-tops, and sleep in saran wrap (stop it, boys) to lose an inch around the middle...we'll be damned if we're gonna let Gramicci give it back to us in the form of a Gathered Waistband.

I'm all for functional. Right up until the point that it looks frumpy*.

That is all. And best of luck.

-Kate.

(Anyone who has seen my normal garb, please recognize that the statement represents a theoretical ideal only.)

Gramicci - Hey, thanks for listening to ideas.

The Land's End pants didn't have a gusset, but had room. I'd prefer the martial art gusset. The nylon isn't slick. It's the same as Patagonia uses, 64% Cotton/ 36% Nylon blend. I like the simplicity of the draw belt, the gathered waistband was fine. I'm thin it looks good, at least the wife says so (OK, maybe I should get a second opinion). I like the open slot for clipping a chalk bag in back. Elastic waistbands just don't last. The cuffs should be synthetic also and match the pant color.

The Yellow Knickers that Bachar posted above is on target, at least visually. Just make sure they come down to the ankles and forget the belt loops. Hey, if you want knickers, just yard them up above the calves if necessary. That will work.

These would be great pants for all kinds of activities: climbing, paragliding, Spring skiing, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, or just knocking around town, whatever. I would indeed buy a rainbow of them. I don't think I could manage buying the plaid though. But I hear some here on this thread would ???

Kate, I hear you. That gathered waist was driven by the “missy” REI market and one particular buyer. I’ll have to try the saran wrap do you think it will get rid of two inches?

TR, I’m traumatized myself looking at people still living in the eighties. My wife looks great in low rise jeans at 48 in fact she dresses so “Junior” our daughters at 16 and 21 can’t keep up with her. Although the running joke in the family is they all come to their dad for fashion advise.

From the two off you I have just visualized a great looking woman’s pant and it will work too. Thanks!

I will need your sizes. The emails are rolling in.
