Climbed Nutcracker with a Fireman from Florida. He got stung by bees on the first Lieback pitch.
That pitch sorta tweaked his back and by the time we got back to Curry Village he was not in the best shape. I went over to the Mountain Room and watched video of what was up.
Trippy day
Peace

State College, PA. Sitting and drinking coffee, saw it all unfold.
Spent the day on the couch in front of the T.V.
Actually, I spent a lot of my time in State College in front of the T.V.

In Washington, D.C., lobbying in the Russell Senate Office Building - got evacuated out. When it sunk in what had happened, I realized that history was unfolding right in front of our eyes, so I ran to the hotel, grabbed my camera, and starting shooting. next night, I joined a peace march from Capitol Hill to the white House - very, very moving.
Went to NY two days later on the train and tried to volunteer at Ground Zero, but they had too many already. Photographed downtown NY.
Glad they got bin Laden yesterday.

I was in DC, across the river from the Pentagon. I saw the plane hit. I made it back to my office near the Capitol, sent everyone home (there were rumors of another plane targeting the Capitol - turned out to be flight 93), and walked the 5 miles home to my girlfriend, who'd moved to DC two days before.

Heard it on the radio as the tape ejected--it was my birthday and a good partner and I were on our way in to the Humbug Spires to do the Wedge and the Edge.

On the prow ...
The team below yelled up the news. We didn't believe it. We had fixed a couple of pitches and rapped back to ground to regroup. I went down to the Ahwahnee to restock on water and saw what was happening on TV. That night we decided that time spent on a wall was more sane than what was going on in the civilized world and headed up. No contrails for days - very strange and somewhat unsettling. But I'll never forget the date of my first successful wall.
Cheers, Roy

Was on vacation and in a WMD/HazMat class with a bunch of fire, EMS, police and emergency management types.Ironically the class was taught by 3 Navy doctors, at least one of whom had an office in the Pentagon. After the first plane hit, folk's pagers and cellphones started going nuts. Before long people are bailing out as local EOC's got stood up.
We finished the class (sort of) and I stopped into my office. My boss had already assumed that I was headed for NYC and basically said "take all the time you need". Got to my fire station and found out that an EMS strike team had already left for the Meadowlands. (they ended up staging there for about 8 hours before returning)
As an aside, on 9/12 I was driving an ambulance on a call and it was the first and only time that virtually every car on the road pulled over and stopped. A week later, nobody would yeld or get out of the way.

I was sleeping off the previous days plane ride from NY La Guardia to L.A., when I was awakened by Jan McCollum pounding on my door.
For my flight on the 10th the weather was clear and we flew over lower Manhattan, so I got a nice view of the towers. Watching the events unfold on the 11th I just sat there in disbelief. I had a great fondness for those buildings. The manager of the Windows on The World restaurant was a close family friend who perished on that day along with so many others.

In Vermont at work. Driving to work on a bright, warm, September day, listening to NPR. I remember it was "National 9-1-1" day, meant to honor our First Responders.
It wasn't until I returned home and talked to my Grandma that I realized I had several cousins on the scene. RIP Dick Stadelberger
