I've usually found initial posts that everyone thought were trolls often weren't
So Tawny, if you're for real, welcome and know that you've stumbled into a curmudgeonly oriented sausage-fest of dirty rock-climbers whose online personas have already been abandoned by sensitive ladies long ago...
and you arrive smelling bait-fully of femininity, innocent sexiness, and innocent of climbing awareness too. So forgive us (or not) for not being straight-forward with you... and see you on the playa.
And if you're not for real, thank you for taking the trouble to create a fun fake identity to entertain the meat-sticks so they don't slander each other to death instead. Dancer/Burning Man/broken fingernails.. so unreal it might be real
PS, if you're anywhere around LA, you'd probably love a trip to Joshua Tree where the climbing stores have used shoes and it's easy to find people to take you climbing. Stay at Hidden Valley campground. The Whole place is like the playa but with funny trees and a rocks and the climbers don't ever come down from their high
Peace

Karl I was at Joshua Tree park a few weeks ago and we climbed at a place by a big parking lot that I think was called Quail rock. I'm in LA and we have tried some climbs at Malibu canyon but I have not had much experience and that seems very hard to me. You sound like a voice of reason compared to some here though no offense. I know boys will be boys. Most of the guys I am around are gay so nothing shocks me much.

If you get a chance, stop at the Nomad Ventures store on the corner of 62 and park blvd. Lots of cool kids there to talk to, and will give you great advice. Some shoes on sale, even...

Karl is a good soul, a straight shooter. It probably shouldn't take you too long to figure out who is worth having a discussion with and who can't have adult conversations yet.

Nice. I have to admit my troll detector (not that there's anything wrong with a nice troll) is still beeping but keeping the possibility open of your reality. I mean you've got "shocking" and "Gay" in one sentence (not that there's anything wrong with nice gays) which is like throw chum to the salmon here. (and you know Salmon think nothing of suicide for sex)
But, to throw out something useful in case you are real, Point Dume on Zuma Beach near malibu has some easy climbing.
But still, calling me "a voice of reason" is sorta a give-away that you're not that new to this site, cause I'm not sure it's obvious from my post.
You're in the game! You can double down by posting an image of yourself or giving us more details about what you're looking for and
If you're a troll, hope it entertains, lures somebody into writing something stupid, and doesn't contain giveaways or contradictions
or
If you're not a troll, folks around here are so old and experienced they have piles of old shoes and harnesses lying around an will probably set you up cheap or free, and tons of people here are around LA
I'll start by posting this image of me at BM 2011. I'm really posting this to put in the face of the lecherous guys here that I have hot women friends (one is actually now getting married in June and the other is 5 months pregnant so it's all relative)
Peace
Karl

Tawny, if you are serious, look up GDavis for gear and then go to Joshua Tree and find a man called Tucker or Todd Gordon.
All will be well, and you'll be on your way.
PM me your number, I haven't seen a good dancer in years. I got a stack of ones too.

romantic ativists didn't you mean "demented atavists"?
Karl is a mystic in disguise, he's been to BM 2011, this year he'll be re-living BM 1998. I don't know what universe he's in today to make such an intelligent and charming post.
I've met some badass women climbers with cute nails, just very short ones. You can always stick on the plastic ones for work or the after climbing boozer. The scabs will be hard to hide. Maybe you can do the Marlene Dietrich thing and change your act to wearing white gloves. You want to leave something to the preverts' imagination.
If you've got long hair, tie it up tightly in a pony tail and tuck it into your shirt before you rappel or you might get scalped. Seriously.

So all these posts and very little advice, though I did go to A16 last night and scored a harness half price. Shoes will be next at some point. But looking at this stuff posted here I see very little climbing stuff and lots of garbage. The sales guy at the store last night laughed at me when I told him I went on here for advice. I feel like this place is well beyond me in that I am just being ogled/accused/leered at by a bunch of old dudes only interested in "my rack" as one here so eloquently put it. My dad always encouraged me to go for my goals and that is why I am in LA pursuing dance. I lost my dad on 9-11 but he still inspires me and I think he would want me to leave this place and move on. Thanks for the few that had some worthy advice.
