Jan,
A full gamut of psychedelic responses can be found in the climbing literature. I have a whole chapter full of examples.

Glossolalia isn't in there, though. I prefer a nice articulate "On belay!"

DMT in, as you say, "chemical doses" is so strong I tend to think of it as the heaviest psychedelic known to man. Many seasoned heads refuse to take more. That much dissociation ain't on my agenda.

But all the more reason to suspect that climber's euphoria, in its many forms, could easily come from minute doses of DMT made right in our brains under stress. Or, let's call it challenge.

I guess this is as good a place as any to repost this interview with The Man himself.

I remember seeing Owsley parachuting in to the first Human Be In in Golden Gate Park back in 1967. He had some colored flares spraying colors into the air as he descended from the sky. I didn't partake, but heard that he also had a couple thousand hits of the 'Good' with him to distribute to the assembled multitudes for free.

Were any other Super Topians there who have more specifics to add? Think he had one of those WWI-type pilot hoods on. What particular brand was he distributing? Ever-clear, Purple Haze, Orange Sunshine? Double-Barrel? There were a lot of different kinds back then but Owsley's was always the Best.
