The wonderful thing about this Republic is that the taxpayers have collective bargaining.

It was over last November.

Do any of us know who is the true enemy of the US? For my two cents, I would say that the number one enemy is the polarization of the US public, the lack of understanding between people with differences of opinion.

Secondly the dogmatism of certain parties/individuals and the intolerance of the respect to agree to disagree with one's neighbor, and yet work for some common cause, which again may be an individual choice, but there has to be discourse and agreement on both/other sides.

You can say that the Repugs are the enemies of America, and many of their policies certainly could back this view up, but equally, those of that ilk could point to the 'leftist' agenda, whatever that may be.

All very nebulous.

Is the USA crumbling under its own weight?

According to a 1998 report in the journal Nature, a recent survey found that 93% of NAS members are either atheists or agnostics.

Norton,

Be honest. You can not put atheists and agnostics together and call it the same. That is very dishonest.

At least agnostics admit they do not know. That is an honest answer. Given more information and enough evidence they would more than likely then know. That is really an honest way to approach it from a scientific point of view. That is the beauty of the scientific method. Theories do evolve and change as more evidence is discovered or found.

To say there is no evidence that GOD exists is wrong. If you think that, then you are not looking hard enough taking all the evidence, and taking all there is into account.

Atheists on the other hand, that is a pure anti-science and an anti-intellectual point of view from the get go. They are dogmatic in their faith that there is no GOD. Which, if any evidence is presented to them that is contrary to this point of view, their minds are already made up. They are extremely biased. They will not accept it, but dismiss it with extreme prejudice. Their minds are seared shut.

That is an absolutely anti-intellectual stance. That is their dogmatic religion. The religion of No GOD.

This thread really is about support for America, and how the GOP is tearing America apart.

HFCS, you would make a really good Nazi. You love to pick and choose who can stay and who should go. You are not very well developed or enlightened along the Evolutionary path. You still hate. Coexistence means nothing to you.

YES!

I think OKIE has distilled the thoughts (such as they are) in this thread, into one statement!

I will not join any union or paramilitary organization that requires me to wear lederhosen. But c'mon, the salute is kinda cool, isn't it? Let's take it back from the nazis. Ironically, the swastika is a variation of an old buddhist symbol.

Thank you for your brief moment of inattention!

Hey, research this guy,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Lee_Loughner

you're beginning to concern me.

Oh, you keep going on with no letup - second only to Go-B or ID4Jesus - about God and atheists. Which ancient local God was that again? Jehovah or Marduk or Amon-Re or Zeus? First thing you learn in any comparative religions course is that atheism is context-dependent.

Perhaps look up that word - context-dependent.

You are an atheist with respect to Amon-Re.
YOu are an atheist with respect to Marduk.
You are an atheist with respect to Zeus.

Say these ten times so they sink in deep. You need the work, trust me.

Unless I have it wrong, do you believe in Amon-Re (God of Ancient Egypt) or Marduk (God of Ancient Babyon) or...

See ya, atheist.

Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist. Atheist.

HFCS,

There are many GODs, but only one we should love with all our heart, mind, and soul. We are to Worship The One True GOD.

There are other GODs. Read the Good Book. The Fallen Angels became GODs to rule over the nations after the Tower of Babel. But there is only one True GOD over all.

We became like GODs, when we learned the difference between Good and Evil. But mankind is certainly having a hard time at dealing with this knowledge and what we do with it. We can't handle it without GOD himself.

"Thou shalt have no other GODs before me."

I am the Lord your God
You shall have no other gods before me
You shall not make for yourself an idol
Do not take the name of the Lord in vain
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Honor your father and mother
You shall not kill/murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet‡ your neighbor's wife
You shall not covet‡ anything that belongs to your neighbor

There is no more evidence of GOD's existence then there is of ALLAH's or the Spaghetti Monster's. To say otherwise is stupid and shows a tremendous amount ignorance. Its called faith, klimmer, meaning a LACK of evidence. Belief is GOD is fundamentally irrational.

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

There are different levels of faith. There is the simple and elegant faith of a child. They believe when they are told that is the way it is, and they accept it and believe it.

Then there is the faith of Doubting Thomas. He didn't believe until he puts his hands into the scars of Jesus's hands.

Then there is every level of faith in between.

There are physical, empirical evidences. GOD doesn't want us to throw our heads away. (Tender as doves but wise as serpents, as the Good Book says):

Star of Bethlehem (see the DVD of this modern science discovery)

Dead Sea Scrolls

Biblical Archeology

Shroud of Turin (History Channel has done a wonderful new science investigative program on this -- absolutely amazing)

Bible Code

Prophecy Fulfillment

The personal testimony of changed lives

etc. etc.

Much of this is beyond science to explain, statistically impossible to all happen by chance, but there it is.

There is a great deal of evidence.

However, you still have to come to GOD by faith.

The fact that you think this is "evidence" speaks to your lack of credibility... and your lack of critical reasoning skills.

Whats interesting, Klimmer, is that I think you're probably a reasonably intelligent person. I've known many people like you who tend to think critically, but completely let themselves go when it comes to God. Be careful man, you can be easily manipulated.

MSNBC, Fox News, et al are in the ratings business NOT the news business. TV political pundits pose themselves as journalists...and unfounded, baseless opinions are represented as fact. Modern American news television has enabled mass biased ignorance...represented as fact.

By polarizing issues and focusing so stridently upon differences and personalities... it has propagated extremism and frustrated and hindered the capability of lawmakers to compromise and pass considered, reasonable legislation.

A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THE BUDGET CRISIS IN WISCONSIN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAfsIW6RY8Q

Here in CA it is a little more desperate, but I would like to see the numbers crunched and an easy exercise like this gentleman from Wisconsin has done.

What is the short-fall for CA?
What is the working adult population of CA?
How much would it take for each of us to pay our way out?

" . . . the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office projected Wednesday that California must close a $25.4 billion shortfall next year, twice as large as legislative leaders predicted."

Read more: http://www.sacbee.com/2010/11/11/3176483/california-budget-shortfall-twice.html#ixzz1EhJjooDK

Very quick calculation (need real numbers):

CA pop.
http://www.lao.ca.gov/1995/010195_calguide/cgep2.html

32 Million X 76.8% for adults(???) = 24.6 Million adults???

(25.4 Billion short-fall/24.6 Million Adults) =

(2.54 x 10^10/2.46 x 10^7) = 1.0325 x 10^3 = $10,325/adult

So, here in CA it is a little harder to do.

Aren't there a few Billionaires out there who want to help The Golden State out?

C'mon. Someone must be out there who has incredible wealth that is just wondering what to do, what to do?

Help California.

HFCS caught my simple mistake (oopsie):

1.0325 x 10^3 = $1032.5/adult

More manageable but still a lot more than $30 something/adult.

I wonder if the OP as a science teacher encourages his students to check their work.
