I met Beat one freezing cold night (5 degrees) at the Smith camping area. He and the lady he was with insisted we come eat with them in their RV. After explaining we had already had a bite he wouldn't take no for answer so we spent most of the evening hanging out and talking about life. Really, really good guy.

Thanks for the link to his words.
When I climb such a route I don’t feel like I am 50 years old
Dude's tapped the Godd#mn fountain of youth!
Gotta love that.

I watched him bouldering at the Sentinel trailhead once. Every move was done with total control.
I knew he was someone probably well known. Sometime later I saw a picture with the obviuos red hair and I knew it was him. I believe the picture was of Meatgrinder Arete, with the Merced raging behind him.
great video, I like how it is right in the mddle of town. People pulling out of their driveways and all.

Beat is really nice. He has a back like a well-muscled bat. He's the strongest person I've ever seen climb. He moves his feet like a kitty cat...a really powerful kitty cat. He loaned me his blue Camalots so that I could climb Supercrack after my house burned, and I didn't dare to do it with the two that we had. He's A-OK with me. The nice beats the climbing in my book, but it really is a pleasure to watch him do his thing.

I always wondered, is he any relation to Messner's partner Hans Kammerlander? He was one of the later partners and one of the few that Reinhold had nothing but praise for.
And he was German too I believe.

Bump for sweaty palms. Cool video above. W.B. I thought the camera work was OK, what was the real beef? Curious, but what a badass solo and more than 15 years ago too!
Wow.

Camera is always too tight or too far with angles. (1999 free solo)
That camera guy needs more experience ....

That is some cool looking rock. I'd climb it. If I was stronger, lighter, and braver of course, but still- that rock looks fun.
