t*r, we can cure you of the book of Face, but you have to live in Patty Hearst's closet for awhile. Relapse is likely. Don't really get it, myself.
Meh.

For me it started when students asked me to join. It's turned into an excellent way to stay in contact with them when courses end. Then it has turned into a great way to stay in contact with climbers and friends who do not live where I currently do. Then family got on bored. Hell, I learned my grandma was sick and in the hospital about three days before a family member thought to contact me via the phone about it. It does have its advantages.

I use to be on facebook and ended up deleting my account back in October. My Ex-wife and I have a bunch of mutual friends. Got divorced back in September 2008 and was (again now that I am working) paying near $1800 in alimony/child support. Made attempts (in court) to get the amount adjusted after losing my job but failed. She was able to get print outs of my climbing trips, surf trips to Costa Rica, epics with chicks, etc. and presented to the judge this past October and I was denied (based on what she presented). I was too stoked on my freedom...
Life is much better being off that! Haaa... It was fun though :-)

I don't understand what the big problem is... I communicate with dozens of people on FB, all of whom I know (and many of whom know each other), and it seems pretty harmless... I don't get crank calls or messages or what have you. And I haven't even gotten paranoid about the privacy levels. I know they're collecting my "info", such as it is, but I don't care... Google does that too. I just go to email or phone when I have something personal to communicate.
