. . . the Rostrum climbs better. It's got a stress free approach . . . .
Crossing the river, I assume.

Each route incredible; rewarding, challenging, and fun when your really fit!

Spectacular descent off of Astroman with Half Dome across the canyon, I love this part every time.

I'm kinda with Jobee here. A longish walk off a big formation in a big canyon has a way of making me appreciate the gift that climbing and friends really are.

Humping up to the car for 5 minutes feels a bit more like the end of a cragging day, NBD.

Being a easy to mid 5.10 leader, which one could I get further up?

Succinct.

Prod, I'd start with the shorter one. You could lead most of it.

Uh, I was joking. Aren't they both way over my head?

Both are super good, for different reasons.

If I had to do one (and only one) over and over though, it would be the Rostrum. As mentioned above(by many), the line and features are just more appealing aesthetically overall in my opinion (kind of like Zodiac over some of the other popular walls on the Captain).

Buju nailed it a few posts above...

Well dude, it's like this: pitch 1, 5.9 flakes. P2, 5.10 flakes, a little squeezy but NBD. p3, endless 5.10 hands, and a creepy reacharound off the belay. p4 you follow. If you really want to lead more, p4 is belayed after 60' and you get the 5.9 hands for the next 100 feet. p5 you follow, it's 10+.
p6 you probably follow, unless you're good at OW- some slippery face that's 10c but has TR pro, and then the .10a OW. P7 you follow, but it shouldn't wreck you. Last pitch you lead, unless you turn out to be wrecked.

So that's, what at least 4 leads if you really climb mid-10, and possibly a bunch more?

I couldn't resist this thread. My two favorite climbs in all of the world.

I've considered this VS. thing many times. I couldn't pick a winner. Astroman is for sure quite a bit more heads up. I've never been benighted on the Rostrum.

I've had some of my best days on both of these routes. I always dreamed of the link up but when Pastor Jake suggested we try the C-Herbert in addition to the Rostroman I felt a bit soft in the middle. (more spray)

I can tell you that the .10d (wink, wink) undercling roof pitch on the Rostrum is a real challenge at the end of a day like that.

Schultz down-soloed the last pitch of the Rostrum to retrieve the first piece of gear in Alien I couldn't get out when cleaning, and then soloed back out.

This is kinda like great sex vs. really great sex. Do them both and get twice the bang for your buck.
